Messi

On a serious note...How much in realistic terms do you think Messi is worth?

If he did go...do you think 100 million would be enough to buy him? More? Less?

I think Roman would bid up to £200m to land him.
He'd only be sold for release clause which is just over that amount iirc

To correct poster above. PSG no mate, was Anzhi but they denied it.

well we did go for ronaldinho and kaka
Totally different, especially with Ronaldinho. Kaka would have looked stupid in our team at that point, so that was just a show of muscle from us more than anything, but had it come off and as outrageous as it would have been, it is nothing like Messi moving from Barca.

For the poster who said football throws up strange things, indeed it does. I've followed the game closely now for the best part of 25 years, the last 20 years especially. Off the top of my head the transfer which made me go 'what the fuck?' the most was Tevez/Mascherano to West Ham, although it was clear what that was all about and it was even more clear that Tevez would go onto have the career he had, and it was never going to be with one club. Take away the size of us compared to Barca, as it's irrelevant because no matter where he moved to, if he ever did, he would always be moving to a smaller club. It is the thought of Messi moving from Barca at all which is the most ludicrous part of this for me, then of course the price. I am talking whilst he's in his prime by the way, not when he's 31. If we sign Messi when he's 31 it won't be a big deal in the scheme of things, as the Messi any club would want would be a distant memory, and it would just be the face we were signing the name rather than the player.

He will never leave in his prime. Ever.

Even if he was to leave Barca. We seem "persona non grata" with Barca. They wouldnt want to sell to us and there would be a number of wealthy clubs, (Monaco, PSG, Chelsea, Anzhi...), less concerned than us about FFP.

I might have a bet on this too, if only for the entertainment value when I walk in the pub tonight.

It's just a leading question from Marca's interviewer aimed to bring Cruyff's answer to fill the headline only, a non-story really.
Neymar should have been brought in and Messi sold to avoid conflicts? Do you agree with that?

With Neymar on board, I would have planned for the possibility of selling Messi, and some would agree with that, others not. You are talking about a team, its players, the things around it... There are too may things at stake. That's why it's so difficult to manage such a top class squad.

I can only think of two reasons why he would ever leave.

Firstly, he feels that he has won all he can win and desires a new challenge.

Secondly, Barcelona appoint a Manager who he just can't relate to.

Both of these are entirely feasible and it would not do City any harm to ensure we always have two or three of his International team mates in our side as a matter of policy.
