Messi.....

The whole thing smacks of wanting a pay rise. Ronaldo just signed another bumper deal with Madrid and Nike, Messi will be looking at it saying he wants his deal fluffing a bit too!
Most likely. Barca have to keep a number of other players happy as well though and need to increase depth in their squad so it could lead to them not being willing to offer him pay parity with Tranny, Bale and Neymar, us being willing to offer it and him accepting because a) he'll get his money b) it's a new experience as a player and c) something to do with a baldy poncey Catalonian fellow.

You forgot d) proving he can do it at Stoke on Tuesday night

At the end of the season he has one year left on his contract?(not sure)
This means he can buy out that year, why would Barca risk that?
When does the stadium renovation start?
Just seems weird to me this time round, you'd think he'd be priority for a new deal, and from what I've read, there's talk of him being last.

For about £30m yes, but they'll risk it because no top club wants to turn that process into common practise as if clubs are willing to find contract buyouts it'll tilt the balance of power a long way further towards players and agents.

I prefer your spin to be honest. If there is even a glimmer of hope we can get him we should be balls out to give him whatever he wants.

Messi ng with my head now this thread
Best player in the world and probably of all time wearing blue would be a dream come true for me

People still don't understand this very relevant point. Let's say we buy him for £120m and pay him £350k a week (£18m a year) as has been suggested. If that's on a 4 year contract, we amortise the fee at £30m a year meaning he's costing us £48m a year.

Because (and only because) it's Messi, Etihad give us an additional £20m a year and we get another £12.5m from Nike for our kit deal. Not only that but three new commercial partners give us £5m a year each.

So we've an expense of £48m but have gained additional revenue of £47.5m having spent that money. Believe me that these are realistic figures and therefore its not "Messi or..." but very much a case of "Messi and..."

Fair point, but still not into it. It's all a bit Pogba.

Messi for a season on the cheap before he goes to his retirement club would be brilliant. Would be stunned if he goes to the rags.
