It’s a challenge to define what metal music is. I would class bands like Metallica, Pantera, Judas Priest, Slayer, Sepultura, Metal Church, Anthrax and Iron Maiden would be what epitomise metal. Though I don’t listen to most of them on a daily basis except for Sepultura. Probably because I don’t like overly shredding based music.
My pick of heavy music is more in the area of Korn, Slipknot, Rammstein, Static-X, Sevendust, Soulfly, Mudvayne, Tool. I had tickets to Slipknot but their tour was cancelled due to the Covid first wave.
I lost track of the heavy music scene after Mastodon, Dragonforce, Gojira, bands that musicians who I used to do gigs with seemed to have picked up. I’ve stayed with Korn and Slipknot over the many years. Through the Family Values tour and all that in the 90s. Jon of Korn is also a superfan of The Cure.
Beastie Boys’ Sabotage is a big song to cover, but Slipknot and Korn’s cover of it live is the best version I’ve heard beyond Beastie Boys.
