Metal Music Appreciation Thread:

I'm into late 70's to 1980's British (ok Scorpions is an exception) Heavy Metal band. I don't class Sabbath as metal. They were part of the "Unholy Trinity" ie Sabbath, Zeppelin, and Deep Purple.......so I think it was Judas Priest that got me into metal and this song in particular...........Victims Of Change:

It’s a challenge to define what metal music is. I would class bands like Metallica, Pantera, Judas Priest, Slayer, Sepultura, Metal Church, Anthrax and Iron Maiden would be what epitomise metal. Though I don’t listen to most of them on a daily basis except for Sepultura. Probably because I don’t like overly shredding based music.

My pick of heavy music is more in the area of Korn, Slipknot, Rammstein, Static-X, Sevendust, Soulfly, Mudvayne, Tool. I had tickets to Slipknot but their tour was cancelled due to the Covid first wave.

I lost track of the heavy music scene after Mastodon, Dragonforce, Gojira, bands that musicians who I used to do gigs with seemed to have picked up. I’ve stayed with Korn and Slipknot over the many years. Through the Family Values tour and all that in the 90s. Jon of Korn is also a superfan of The Cure.

Beastie Boys’ Sabotage is a big song to cover, but Slipknot and Korn’s cover of it live is the best version I’ve heard beyond Beastie Boys.

Got very into Sepultura as a teen, about the time they did blood rooted. Igors samba-metal playing changed my fucking life. Started a journey that goes on to this day.

Some favourite albums through the years:
At the gates - slaughter of the soul
Pantera - vulgar display
RATM - RATM
Maiden - powerslave
Opeth - Blackwater park
Tool - aenima (if youve never heard the salival version of pushit, stop, go find it. Yes, now)
Dio - holy diver
Sabbath - Sabbath

And too many notables to mention

Just two weeks to go to finally see the Worlds Collide Tour - Evanescence and Within Temptation joint headliners.
Bought the tickets pre Covid so it’s been hell of a wait.

Enjoy! Only saw Evanescence support Maiden at Download years back. They didn’t appreciate the continued barrage of plastic bottles and backed out early. I guess it was a shame but at the time it was funny seeing Amy Lee have a meltdown
