Metrolink to / from Etihad

Someone died and it was stopped to allow an air ambulance to land..not everything is metrolink fault sometimes there's reasons outside their control which cause services to be halted

Well nobody knew that at the time did they? The message posted was they'd stopped and had been there for a while with no announcement. Condolences to the deceased.

The message I read online said due to a ‘police incident’ which usually means either an accident further along the line or a demonstration somewhere.
However I do agree that they should sometimes be clearer about why there are hold ups. :-)

I guess it’s like every line of business one can never tell when something/someone is going to disrupt it.

I wasn't on the tram but this was the message I responded to.

,"Been stuck on a stationary tram outside New Islington for 25 minutes now. After one brief announcement heard nothing more. Passengers getting ansty and mutinous"

Obviously trying to save somebody's life takes precedent over a tram moving but 25 minutes on a possibly crowded tram with no real information wouldn't be pleasant and could also cause further health issues for those onboard. If people onboard knew the reason then I'm sure they wouldn't be ansty and mutinous as quoted. As I said condolences to the deceased and injured in this tragic incident.

I was on the tram that was held up. Have waited longer In Tescos.
Some people just get so unnecessarily agitated at the slightest thing (and this was a medical emergency - obvious from what the driver told us and the blue lights going past). Condolences and sympathies to those affected, RIP.
One mature woman, - who incidentally had a seat, took it upon herself to shout at the driver and get up to bang on his window. Wouldn't like to be stuck in the lift with some of the morons on that tram - embarrassing, selfish performances.

I was on a tram that was held up for about 10 mins and the driver announcement was “due to a car blocking the line, we might get moving soon”, so people were understandably a tad irritated. Agree that of course the medical emergency must take precedence, but that doesn’t explain why 3hrs later it was still as bad as usual to get home!

I always walk into Town and pick a tram up there after a match because it is always going to be busy afterwards. Every sporting venue in the World, of any sizeable crowd is. But yes, Metrolink could do better.

Whether last night was a twisted ankle, a stuck car, a cat on the tracks, a tired player - whatever,; unfortunately this turned out to be something rather more serious and tragic - the behaviour of some was unwarranted and ridiculous.

Was that the same one I was on that was stuck for half an hour?
My mate is a driver and he says they have started running direct services on the quiet from some of the outer stations - depending on driver availability- but for some reason don’t promote them, even the boards said Piccadilly rather than Etihad Campus.
Normally timed to arrive an hour before kick off so probably leaving East Dids at 6.20 tonight, 1:20 for a 3pm
I did get stuck for half an hour.
Will try and get on the direct tram on Saturday.
Cheers.

People can be great in emergencies and despicable too.

One incidence that I remember when I worked on the ships was a good example. We had just left Calais when we had two medical emergencies in the food court. Both heart attacks and as the first aid team worked to try and keep them alive the ship returned to Calais at full speed to get them off and to a hospital. I was tasked along with other crew with keeping people away from the area of the incident. Tannoy announcements had been made by crew and the captain explaining exactly what was happening. In spite of this people were moaning why they couldn't go into the cordoned off area and "How long are we going to be delayed for?" as two poor buggers fought for their lives. I tore a strip off one bloke giving a young stewardess a load of grief. I told him in no uncertain terms how selfish he was and that if it was him lying fighting for his life then I'm sure his family would want us to do everything we could to save him. As he bristled with outrage I cut him a withering look and added, "Or maybe not." On the other side of the coin we always got off duty medical staff volunteer their help in such cases and most people are sympathetic. They understand it could easily be themselves or one of their loved ones in such an unfortunate position.

You're so right - great post too.
Thanks.

I wasn’t far away from where that lady was sat, tbf to her I think she was feeling a bit claustrophobic and anxious, seat or not

I waited from 9.55 pm to 10.25 pm for a tram to Ashton last night, which is the longest wait since I started using the tram a couple of seasons ago.
And then typical, two double units came along more or less together.
That soon cleared the Ashton bound platform pronto.
And I had a nice surprise this morning.
I had used the tram to get to my daughter's flat opposite Sale Metro station yesterday afternoon.
And then back home again around 5pm.
And the fare there and back meant that I had reached the capped off peak daily fare ,which meant my short trip from Edge Lane and back was a freebie.

Post match, it was probably the longest I've had to queue for a tram this season, but only about 15 minutes longer than normal. I guess it was totally understandable if the route was still in service recovery mode from the earlier incident.
One thing that struck me last night was that the majority of people in the queue seemed to be in a trance. As well as the usual "phone slaves", people didn't seem to understand they needed to fill up the whole width of the queue chicane, and seemed oblivious when the queue started moving.

As is now accepted, the long delays going to the ground on Wednesday were due to a serious incident beyond the Mets control. That however ignores the issues of the passengers. We are rammed on and most if not all, accept it as it is a 10 minute journey .....usually. I would not want to wait 30 minutes or more in a rammed carriage if the rags or scouse vermin were on board or I needed a piss. The problem is they cannot let anyone off if its not at a platform.

I'm always surprised that trains/trams don't have aircrafts type escape inflatables to get out.

Just a heads-up, that next Tuesday on CL semi final night there is a major gig at the AO arena, starting at 7.30. Expect the Metrolink to suffer a major meltdown.

Our tram to the stadium ran past the incident in Carruthers Street, which was cordoned off and had several emergency service vehicles present. The air ambulance helicopter was on the grassed area between Pollard and Merrill Streets.

No delay getting to the ground but a bloody shambles afterwards. The tram from the stadium got to Holt Town and the driver announced he would not be going any further than Piccadilly. not a problem because that is where I wanted to get off. When he got to New Islington he repeated the message but added that he would be going into the opposite platform in Piccadilly and that anyone who wanted a tram to Altrincham, Bury etc should leave the tram at New Islington. That was utterly stupid as no trams run from the Etihad to Altrincham which the driver should have been aware of. The tram arrived in Piccadilly and those of us who know the ropes turned right out of the tram to cross the tracks and get to the other platform from ground level instead of funnelling up the narrow staircase to cross above the tracks.

Then there was a wait of roughly 10 minutes for the Altrincham tram an empty SINGLE unit that was overcrowded before it left, yet people still tried to get on in the Gardens and at St. Peter's Square. Metrolink was not at fault earlier on in the evening but there is no hiding the fact that they are bloody useless and not fit for purpose.
