Metrolink to / from Etihad

I’ll never ever criticise working class people taking what limited action the greedy privatised Tory bastards have still allowed them in order to get a few crumbs off the Thatcherite table
We have the most draconian lack of workers rights in Europe
Fair fucks to the Mancs sticking up for themselves
If it inconveniences you, then consider how much these private overseas companies are rinsing from the UK taxpayer and reconsider your vote next time
Thatcher’s privatisation scam has wreaked havoc on this nation
All my working life they've been able to divide the working man/woman. And we're still falling for it.

Back to what classes as normal then for TFGM.

I don’t know what the proposed strike was about but it was disgusting to arrange it for the weekend before Christmas, that wouldn’t have earned them much public support.
It was about shift patterns and how the drivers think they are working too long in them, or something like that. So putting passenger, and their own, safety first.

But it sounds like it earned them a deal they deem acceptable - so the threat of strike action worked for them.

Unfortunately, that is the way these sort of negotiations happen - it would be lovely if there could be a nice amicable discussion about what their labour is worth and whether it is affordable, everyone shakes hands and have a nice cup of tea. But we have this adversarial system which means each side needs to make threats and the other has to decide how far they will push it before coming to an agreement.

I'm intrigued as to who we should consider to vote in next time around, in your opinion ? Honest question.

Just a quick point. Since Thatcher was voted out we have had a number of Labour governments in power, why didn't they nationalise it all back ?
I don't want to make this political, it just makes me laugh that people still blame everything on her. The tram opened in 1992. (Altrincham to town) the shite service and any perceived poor work conditions has fuck all to do with her.

That bitch deregulated the bus industry in 1985, it meant longer hours for less money for the drivers. For the public it meant a glut of buses on popular routes and some housing estates left without any service whatsoever. Was disappointed the Blair and Brown government's did not reverse deregulation. At least Burnham is trying to improve things on a local level at best it will be back to SELNEC days. I worked on the buses and trams for 30 years and am well aware what the tories did to public transport. At least I was able to tell them what I thought of them when they came for their conference. As for Thatcher, I hate her more than Man Utd and that's saying a lot.

Glad to see this has been resolved. I hope a spin off is a better all round service for the public as well. I know I'm likely living in hope but FFS is there any chance someone, anyone, can get a grip of the pre and post match trams. It's as bad now as it's ever been, post match especially.

It’s a lot harder to reverse this shit unfortunately.

Look at Brexit, it’s not like we can just snap our fingers and make it how it was before.

With HS2 all the money meant for the Manchester line was diverted to other ‘southern based’ needs - when Labour came in, the money no longer existed to make it right again.

Affordability

To be fair, the only one they theoretically could tackle is infrequent, and we've been through this countless times before as to why they dont have the infrastructure to make this go away.
Hmmm no not really. Alti trams that don't go to the Etihad on match days but do go after 7pm on non match days. That's is not infrequent, that's piss poor planning.
It could have been far better designed, not every service had to go through town, that there London has circular routes, we could have had the new route from the airport terminating before town.
Again, piss poor planning.
