Metrolink to the stadium

Same thing happened over Easter when we had a bank holiday monday night game.

Bought the Metrolink season this year, but already regretting it - problems tonight, South side closure on Saturday for Stoke game, already 2 games without risk of not getting home/replacement bus service.

There's an agenda as they can't do work on the Alty line when the rags are at home, just means those of us using it to home games get all the closures. They are similarly rubbish on Sunday nights, when the MUEN Arena (or whatever its called now) empties to find the trams have all stopped....

It's a fecking joke that they're not making some allowance for there being a match being on and extending the time of the Oldham line (and Ashton) even if it is a Bank Holiday Monday.

They try and tell us to use the public transport system only for it to be made available when you want to use it, idiots!!

I don't use it often. I hired a van this week and dropped it off in Oldham. Went to the station across the road, via a pub when I found one, and there was a tram in 2 minutes. I put my destination in and tried to feed coins just as the tram arrived but something was stuck. Anyway I got on and for the first time got a free ride. Wouldn't do it out of choice but it was Oldham, I had worked like a dog all day, I was in a tee shirt and it was freezing!!

Anyway the line from Oldham to Hollinwood is painfully slow, full of twists and turns that the tram takes almost at walking pace and even into town further on it slows for one track and hills.

However, the line to Altrincham is rapid. Not done Didsbury yet.

But quicker than a bus?

Don't use the bus but I could have cycled quicker as I can going to work in town. I suspect the tram would win on on the Altrincham line though. I like the Metrolink but it is not without fault and you seem so defensive I suspect you work for them. Faster more reliable transport is what we need. Unfortunately I need my car for work most days otherwise I would mix it up with tram and cycling.

The following isn't aimed at you Manchester Blue:

Nah, I don't work for them. I just don't like people moaning about stuff without seeking information, so I tend post in response so that one day hopefully there will be less people on here thinking they are victims because they are City fans. A lot of people have to put up with the Metro's service 5 days a week and have little alternative, City fans have plenty of alternatives in my opinion.

So because its a shit service 5 days a week, we shouldnt complain when they put on a shit service on matchdays?

No, of course people have a right to complain, but it's the ones in this thread who post as if it's all done to fuck over City that do my head in.

This is the current timetable for the Etihad-Campus tram stop.

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.metrolink.co.uk/tramtimes/Pages/Etihad-Campus.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.metrolink.co.uk/tramtimes/Pa ... ampus.aspx</a>

The last tram time is the same for every bank holiday this year. The problem is because Manchester's Pride is this bank holiday and our match is against Liverpool, so our match had to be moved to Monday night. Why should it be down the the Metrolink to cater for football fans? I don't see the buses providing an extra service today and anyone bitching about that.

I agree it would be best to provide more trams and buses today because we had to move our match because of Manchester's Pride, but that's something that should be aimed at the council and GMPTE.

I think the problem is that a lot of folk bought season tickets last season for the Met and the service was unavailable reasonably frequently on match days. As City sold them [I think] they must be, in a small way, accountable, and it's no good pointing to T&Cs about it anyone can hide behind small print. As for should they cater for football fans yes they should. Wembley Way would never empty if it wasn't for the superb organisation of the Tube system and the purpose of the Met is to take traffic off the roads not piss people off so much that they revert to cars.

Why should it be down to Metrolink to cater for the people that would like to use it? Really? I would have thought the whole point of Metrolink was to provide a good service for its customers.

As far as I'm concerned they should be doing everything they can to encourage football supporters to use the service. Plenty of money has been spent building the infrastructure to enable the to provide a good service to football supporters and there is plenty of revenue to be had from the football public if they don't make it impossible to use the Metrolink.

As for buses, maybe no-one is whinging because 1 or 2 of the fuckers will still be working at a time most of us will be looking for transport home.

If we're being sold "Metrolink matchday season tickets" then somebody should probably be ensuring we can actually use the service on matchdays.
