Metrolink..

It's just not fit for purpose and/or it is run by complete imbeciles. I truly believe the person in charge is a rag or just hates passengers, how else could you explain the total incompetence?

I still can't believe the Altrincham tram, which is one of the busiest, can't just carry on to the stadium on match days. The Eccles tram does, why can't the Altrincham one? If not every tram how about a few match specials that do? This would alleviate a lot of the crush at Cornbrook and beyond.

The 216 bus from Piccadilly used to be fairly decent but now grinds to a standstill in traffic, so much so that everybody gives up and gets off and walks.

In spite of having a bus/tram ticket on match days the last three games I have walked back into town after the game as I can't face the overcrowding and stress. The weather has been great but I'm dreading it when winter kicks in.

I don't know about others but the transport situation is ruining going to a game. When I was young you don't mind roughing it but as I age it's just becoming too much hassle and stress

On some days when trams to the stadium are either non existent or unsafely packed, I have instead travelled to Monsall or Central Park on the East Dids to Bury line, about 20-25 mins walk from the stadium.
One of the big problems using the trams from South Manchester to the ground is that everyone from that side of the city has to change and board an Ashton tram at Cornbrook. They should run a limited number of direct matchday specials on all lines

There was a service between Altrincham and the Etihad, which was really convenient and logical. So obviously they scrapped that. It means night games are more difficult for my older relatives to get to, especially when they start sending trams to Trafford bar instead of Altrincham when the service can't cope with demand (which happens a lot at busy times). If there's a worse run public transport system in the UK than Metrolink I'd be surprised.

They used to to<>from Altrincham from Ashton. But the Metties used to moan at you on the Etihad stop if you waited for the Altrincham Met and told you to get on whichever Met pulled up and to instead wait at Piccadilly (simply shifting people waiting to another stop).

I think their complaints went to the top and they removed the direct Alty Mets, all because I was allowing people who might be going directly to Eccles to get on a Met ahead of me while I waited for mine.

Yeah they changed the Ashton/Etihad service to connect to the Media City/Eccles line rather than Altrincham a couple of years ago. Madness as it caused problems for everyone travelling from the south of the city, which was always a blue stronghold. With apologies to @Eccles Blue and others, they instead made it more convenient for the considerably fewer people travelling to watch City from the more traditionally red areas of Greater Manchester like Salford and Eccles

Again, madness

I use the bus now.
Impressed enough to use it all the time.
A few weeks back of no service the only problem I have had since I started using the bus.
Traffic a pain and they could get them filled quicker but still a decent service.

@LongsightM13 When I was reading this thread this afternoon I was thinking that we were lucky. I didn’t know about the change to Etihad business but think that it’s 50/50 with supporters. There are as many blue supporters in Altrincham as in Eccles I would surmise. :-)
We are lucky as I say and on the Metrolink map our Line from Eccles to Ashton is coloured in blue! So doubly lucky I guess!
Personally I agree with that observation that both services Altrincham/Eccles should run to Ashton. :-)

The bus service is appalling, had to get off and walk every time so far apart from Wycombe, and that despite setting ofc nearly an hour before kick off. If anything finally persuades me and my mate that it's too much hassle going to the games it is likely to be the shambolic bus service.
