Metrolink..

Andy Burnham doesn't run the buses, the trains or the trams, so it might be an idea to take your rocket to the pirates of privatisation who've been "running" and zealously guarding their profitable little cash cows for the best part of three decades now while taking money out of the public purse to prop up their hopelessly flawed business models.
He is in overall charge so he should pull his finger out and sort things out. Spending all his time on the dossers and homeless is doing nothing for the majority of the public.

What a shambles with Manchester transport today.
How we can be classed as a major city with such poor transport infrastructure is a joke and Andy Burnham needs a rocket up his arse.
Set off to get the train from Heald Green to Piccadilly but was told all trains upto 3.00 pm cancelled due to a incident at Burnage.
Fine I will then get the Met from Peel Hall and managed to squeeze on along with 800 people who were on the tram from the Airport due to the train problem.
Took 1 hour 15 mins to get into Piccadilly after numerous stops where the doors would not close and too many passengers on the tram!!
After the game had to wait 25 mins for the 1st tram back to Piccadilly due to driver shortages apparently and hundreds behind awaiting for further trams to arrive..
A major City you say ??? A fucking embarrassment more like.
Four dangerously overcrowded trams passed at Chorlton, impossible to board, before I could finally get on a rare double one into town. As you said the doors also wouldn’t shut properly on some of them due to the overcrowding, adding to the delays

It’s literally a big part of his job and in his plans.

There’s been a lot of talk about transport since he became mayor four years ago and a lot of the plans are going well into the 2020s, but there’s been little short term action and improvements so far.

Burnham actually has some form of control over the trams as Mayor. He proudly told everyone this when he said he wouldn't follow the government mandate on masks being voluntary on public transport. Indeed he was making them mandatory on the trams or face a £100 fine. Anyone who has caught a tram lately knows this isn't happening. It can't because the n the rare occasions somebody is challenged by an official they just say they're exempt, end of discussion.

The tannoy on the tram asks you to respective social distancing, but then when you get to Piccadilly the Metrolink staff ask you to crush up to get as many passengers on as feasibly possible???

Remember when you got on a bus it used have a legal declaration of the number of seated passengers and standing passengers allowed. Why is there no such requirement on a tram carriage. I`ve been on an overcrowded tram prior to a match that had to suddenly stop due to a pedestrian walking into the road. It wasn`t travelling fast, in fact it wasn`t much quicker than crawling. But the result was all standing passengers lurching forward and a serious crush. Luckily those involved appeared to be of an age that could cope.

As has been said there`s going to be a serious accident one day. So if you`re on it, don`t forget to get your whiplash claim in.

I wrote to Burnham pointing out the overcrowding, got a waffling generic reply. He should be made to try the Metrolink on a City match day.

I’ve just attended the OSC AGM and it was brought up about the trams and lack of same. As well as the car parks etc.
Kevin Parker said that the club were hoping to deal with them and said that @Prestwich_Blue had attended a transport meeting on behalf of the City Matters Committee and they were just awaiting his report back.

As an aside about the OSC AGM… I met @Tim of the Oak, what a lovely man. A gentleman. Great to meet you Tim. Sorry I had to dash for a Birthday lunch! :-)

Gave up catching the tram back into Piccadilly as nothing was moving. Decided to walk to town carrying 18 month old city fan. Walked as most do via tram lines into Piccadilly and only 1 tram passed.
Waited so Piccadilly station stop and guess what turned up, a double tram packed to the rafters with ‘ football special’ on its destination signs. Unfortunately there wasn’t a clue as to where it’s destination was. Took 4 other trams until a tram to Eccles turned up.
