Oh fuck so you’re saying he could be promoted to run the whole country instead yikesAndy Burnham in doing fuck all about anything to help Manchester unless it’s to further his leadership claims shocker. The man is a sound bite oppotunist
Four seasons ago after Mrs S was injured on the tram I got the same rapid response to a complaint detailing all the improvements that were planned. Nothing changes, the after match tram is still a serious accident waiting to happen. The thing is, if we put a couple of the Senior City execs and a couple from Metrolink on one of these trams to experience the reality, things would improve pronto. I bet they fudged the answer to the question what is the legal limit? If I remember correctly they have a number that the tram carriage is designed for but there is no legal maximum. I have seen quieter trains in rural india with folk hanging off the roof!At 11.58 this morning I sent an email to Metrolink asking why no specials on Saturday and what is the legal number allowed on a tram, explaining the sardine effect. I received the usual immediate we are dealing with it email and thought oh yes sometime next week/month!!
At 12.49 I received a fully detailed reply about some of the reason for the delays etc., which amounted to almost a full page.
I was impressed at the speed of the response and the fact that it was so detailed plus the young lady (well I'm assuming she was young!) has passed on my email to the 'Planning Team to address the situation for future matches.'
It may not make any difference but at least I feel they have been informed.
My immediate thought when I received such a prompt response was wow City could learn a lesson or two here!!

They went further in that response than I got. I note they don't say how that peak capacity of 206 is policed. Last time I looked there were no controls as to how many got to stand on the platform so its obvious that its going to be a free for all. This was the section on capacity response: (I changed it to a Blue font)
The information re capacity is listed below.
Each vehicle is 28.4 metres (93 ft) long and has three bogies, the outer two of which are powered, while the unpowered central bogie supports the articulation gangway. Numbers 3001 to 3074 have 52 standard seats with a further 8 "perch" seats, while numbers 3075 upwards have 60 standard seats and 6 perch seats. On numbers 3001 to 3074 there are two wheelchair spaces, one in each half of the tram; which increased to four spaces for numbers 3075 upwards. At a standard 4 persons per square metre there is space for 146 standing passengers, giving each vehicle a total peak capacity of 206 passengers.[15] The M5000 can be operated as single vehicles or as a double, the latter providing capacity for over 400 passengers at any one time. The trams are equipped with a passenger information system to deliver timely and relevant travelling information using Mitrac's propulsion system.

Yeah, its very similar to the stuff I got. You should ask them how they prevent more than 206 getting on the tram :-)This could be covered by this section: In fact I shall put the full email on here:
Good Afternoon
Thank you for your email
I appreciate how frustrating overcrowding is however when a football match or event takes place across the Metrolink network, Metrolink will increase the capacity by operating as many double trams as possible to cope with the extra capacity of passengers travelling to and from the football match, however this will be dependant on tram availability due to planned or unplanned maintenance.
However Just to explain what happened to impact the service on Saturday post match, we currently have a reduced number of drivers due to the track and trace system and did everything possible to maintain a full service on the Ashton Line.
The staff were doing their utmost to assist on the ground and requesting more trams. Unfortunately due to serious traffic congestion on Ashton New Road we had further problems waiting for trams to return from Ashton.
The Control Network Centre were diverting Piccadilly trams to Velopark to ease the burden on our customers.
Such events are a huge logistical undertaking and we always try to place more trams as quickly as possible to ease the overcrowding.
Please be assured, this is constantly monitored by the Network Control Centre with qualified staff placed in the most crucial areas.
I have sent your full email to the Planning Team to address the situation for future matches.
