Michael le Vell (Kevin Webster)

Alisdair Williamson, defending, asked the mother if she had phoned the police to ask whether she could sell her story to the newspapers.

But she denied that, saying she had been ‘very upset’ with the investigation. She said she had begun a formal complaint against the Crown Prosecution Service when it initially decided not to pursue the case.

That may go some way to explaining why the CPS decided to take the case on desoite the one word against the other nature of it

Then my earlier clouded opinion has now returned to some blue sky thinking.
There's no satisfactory outcome to this case. Either he's guilty of the most disgusting betrayal of trust imaginable or he's a victim of the most disgusting accusation imaginable.

And the jury has to decide his fate....
Glad I'm not on it tbh.

I don't know who the girl is or any of the circumstances but the fact that she has asked the plod could she sell her story to the papers has clouded my opinion .

I agree it doesn't look very classy but it wouldn't influence me in a negative way towards the girls honesty.

I'm not going to talk about this case but if in an hyperthetical situation a girl had been abused by a celebrity and the police/CPS didn't want to know about it. I would have no problem with her shaming him in the papers. And if she made a few quid in the process, good luck to her.

I'm not his biggest fan but if i was on the jury i'd go not guilty, admittedly i've not been in Court but it's been reported widely enough.
Reasonable doubt, tho having said that it is an uneasy not guilty.

I still can't see how the CPS thought the case strong enough to go to court after they dropped it the first time.

I reckon he's gonna get off, the jury members might think he's probably guilty but that they're not 100% sure so thinking he's suffered enough anyway, vote to acquit......

I have no idea whether he did it or not but think he'll be acquitted due to no solid evidence to convict. It's been a strange case.

That is a very ignorant post. You really should not comment until a trial has been completed. Which football team he supports is of no relevance whatsoever.

Agreed, innocent until proved guilty and if he is innocent his name is tarnished regardless.

Not on here. The common consensus is that he's guilty and that, even if he's acquitted, it'sa only because there's not enough evidence to convict him. Perish the thought that he may actually not have committed those heinous acts with which he's been charged. Agreed about the earlier post though; absolutely ridiculous.

You can't educate some people unfortunately. If he is found not guilty, he should be treated as exactly that. I seriously think it is time that annonimity is granted in such cases. If he is not guilty can you even begin to imagine what he has been through. I don't care if is the biggest rag in the world. No one deserves that.similarly if found guilty he deserves his punishment.

As Mackenzie has alluded to, something has come to light that has convinced the CPS to persue this. We aren't, or not as yet at least, been aware of this. The CPS have to have the public interest at heart regarding costly court cases.

Not read the full thread but there is possibly a fairly obvious reason why the case has got so far that will come out after the trial.

I think he will get off personally as there is no way a jury can be sure of his guilt

Whether he's raped the girl or not , and whether there's DNA or not , it just comes down to his word against hers , and who's version of events a jury believes.

He appears to have stood firm as the prosecution layed into him , and it would appear that they are no further on ...... and if that's the case it's difficult to see how a jury could 'confidently' convict him.

He certainly 'looks' the type, so I'm convinced.........hang him!
