Not really relevant. He fouled him in the area, penalty end of story.
It would have been a free kick anywhere else on the pitch but he bottled it because it was in the box.

Do not think that covering player was a factor. He was about to pull the trigger. If I did not give that in an Evostick game that would be my season down the pan no problems.

I think you might be confusing me with another poster. I've not posted that much on here and I don’t think I’ve posted about another penalty or contentious decision before. I'm not a ref or anything, it’s just my opinion. I don't want to revisit it or debate here but I also thought Aguero foul against Leicester wasn't a penalty. I'm not saying I'm right just that maybe my idea of what constitute a penalty is different from yours? Maybe I'm a bit more old school and this idea of 'there was contact’ which 100% mean a penalty should be given doesn't sit easily with me.

Also the use of the words ‘stonewall penalty’ seems to have creeped into football fans vocabulary. To me the Stones on Sterling against Everton and the Aguero at Southampton were stonewall. Yesterday, the Leicester away, Everton away LC were debateable. Don’t get me wrong I wish they had all been given but I can understand why they weren’t.

I just saw a reply on TV of the penalty for the first time. This probably won't make me popular on here but I don't think it was a penalty. Aguero went down quite easily. He took a heavy touch and I think he realised the covering defender was going to get to the ball before him, felt the touch and went down. I think the TV angle looking straight at the goal gives the best view.

That miss by Sterling though.. ooow. So glad we won as that might have stayed with him and effected his confidence.

Have to agree that the contact was not than heavy but there was contact and it was a foul. It was poor lazy defending and he was luck to get away with it. The important thing is that it didn't cost us in the end unlike the Sterling penalty incidents against Spurs and Everton.

Im always of the opinion that awarding a penalty is penance enough and the double whammy of going down a man is way too much and it doesnt help refs as they really do know they are virtually ending the game as a contest.

It was a nailed on penalty yesterday and had he given it, id have been happy at that and not wanted the lad sent off as well.

Its something the law makers need to look at going forwards.

It was a cast iron pen also lucas should have seen red for that lunge with his foot of the floor on sergio shocking tackle and coutiniho should have had 2 yellows 1 for diving and 1 for removing his shirt ! Ref had a really bad game!

Don't think he would have removed his shirt and gone in the crowd if he had been booked earlier for diving

I thought the ref was good other than the Kun no-pen and surely the linesman should have helped him out with that penalty decision?!

But he wasn't falling for all their diving, he didn't let the occasion get to him and make panic penalty decisions that would ruin the game for their dives in the box (maybe that sort of thing was on his mind for Kun's no-pen?). Good ref'ing.

Maybe could have booked Lucas for a foul on Kun first half but I haven't seen it back to see whether it was just a foul or more yet.

Other than that no complaints.

I thought Liverpool came out quite physical from the start and tried to make sure we weren't able to settle, I also thought Michael Oliver allowed them to do that. Both Clyne (persistent fouling) and Lucas (persistent fouling plus one shocker) in particular got a lot of leeway and both could, and should, have been booked in the first half because he needed to stamp some authority on the game. However you try and micro analyse the Aguero incident it was a clear foul and, inside the box, that's a penalty. Not sure Oliver (like several other officials recently) could have been in a better position to see the incident other than being goal side of play, which he is never going to be, and yet he still didn't give it.

The referee has proven to be a shithouse. He looks like one and clearly, he referees like one. A clearer penalty you will never see.
