Middle East Conflict

Below article says:

"Out of nearly 600 incidents in Gaza from the past 10 years that raised suspicions of law violations and whose outcomes are known, only three investigations — one per military offensive — resulted in indictments."

and that there "is an inherent conflict of interest within the law enforcement system. The Attorney General and the Military Advocate General, tasked with investigating and prosecuting suspected breaches of international law, also serve as legal advisors for approving Israel’s lethal policies in Gaza."

Labour Friends of Apartheid are not happy Starmer follows international law.

Yesh Din’s analysis of the Israeli law enforcement system’s work, and in particular that of the General Staff Mechanism for Fact-Finding Assessments shows that Israel responds to suspicions of war crimes in this way:

Refrains from investigating high-ranking decision makers and policy makers The top ranks in government, military and Office of the Attorney General, who are responsible for setting Israel’s use of force policy, are not subject to any review by the law enforcement system'

This appears to contradict the Labour Friends of Israel statement that "Israel's courts have previously tried and jailed the country's most senior leaders. They are already investigating allegations of serious misconduct relating to the war. It is right that these are investigated and that there is no reason to believe that Israel could not or would not investigate in this case"

Any take on the attack on Majdal Shams? It's a Druze village in Israeli-occupied territory. (Israel's occupying the Golan Heights made sense in 1967 to prevent artillery attacks on Israel). The inhabitants don't want to be Israeli. So the questions are (1) why would Hezbollah attack a Druze village and (2) why would Israel treat it as an excuse for retaliation?

(I first assumed when the news broke that it was another Israeli settlement on occupied territory.)
