Middle East Conflict

Israel gradually burns all its international goodwill
I doubt they care at this stage.

Their intention is the destruction of Hamas and anything else is (in their eyes) collateral damage. I'd guess they're prepared to accept the opprobrium their action brings if they can achieve that. I doubt they'd sacrifice that objective in favour of a nice write-up in the Guardian, or on the BBC.

You can’t, it’s a ridiculous request.

The stopping of food, water and medical aid to Gaza was wrong and the failure to set up a humanitarian corridor in which those who want to leave could in a sensible time frame also wrong.

Israel though would have thought Hamas fighters themselves would have used it to run so from a military point of view I can see why that didn’t happen.

Its horrible.
But in reality, Hamas fighters, if smart would have run anyway. What Is real should have done is let them run if they want. But go on and dismantle any equipment they leave behind and destroy all their underground networks. Level it.

You simply can't show no regards for innocent humans. If you do, you are just like the terrorists.

Unfortunately you’re not wrong Hilts.
But there’s the hard part that should no longer be shied away from in bold above.
That’s the hard part, that the current leadership will not put the hard yards on.
Where would The North have been without the likes of John Hume?

I do think internationally that the world should not so much be pressurising Israel, but offering them an alternative and also actively getting involved in promoting democracy to the Palestinian people.

What do I know however, less than yourself I’m sure.
I would say you have a better handle on this to be honest. Youve lived through something more similar to this situation than most. As you say, the likes of john hume, the queen shaking hands with martin mcguinness, mcguinness and paisley becoming friends… what huge people they all were. Amazing really

Urban warfare is also the most difficult form of warfare. And while a city attack may not be the most difficult type of urban operation—a counterinsurgency involving separating a few enemy personnel from among millions of people while maintaining a military’s legitimacy could be considered more difficult—it is one of the riskiest missions a nation can attempt. There are disproportionate levels of political, tactical, and accidental risk in attempting to liberate a city from a defending force.

As soon as the Israelis are balls deep into Gaza, you can bet Hezbollah will kick off, as well as it kicking off in the West Bank. They will also be joined by thousands and thousands of fighters from all across the region. With certain state's in the region funding it. This War won't be quick in any way.

Whole things a shit show and over the years neither side comes out well

I believe Palestine should be free from Israeli oppression. I think what Israel are doing the Palestian people now is awful. However I will never excuse the actions of Hamas.

Rightly or wrongly Israel and Palestine need a two state solution. It’s the only way for peace.

The problem is there are a minority of Palestinians who want to wipe Israel off the map and a minority of Israelis who want to take more Palestinian land. They are ruining everyone elses lives.
The two state solution is dead thanks to the settlement building which has all but obliterated any semblance of a Palestinian territory. What you have is islands of Palestinian communities in a sea of Israeli settlements.
Two solutions left IMO, either integrate the whole of the Palestinian population into Israel giving them full citizenship with full democratic rights or maintain the status quo of an apartheid system with all the Palestinians herded into tiny bantustans enclosed by walls and fences and watch them seethe and fester before the inevitable uprising and the inevitable retaliation.
The problem needs a wise and courageous solution from the Israelis to break this cycle of tit for tat violence otherwise this dispute is going to take Israel, and the world, somewhere nobody wants it to go.

They won't do that because within a generation the Arab Muslim population would have a clear majority and Israel is no longer the Jewish state.
