Middle East Conflict

What does chanting "Jihad Jihad" mean?

Genuine question
Probably that the idiot who chanted it (wasn’t it someone from that odious organisation Hizb ut-Tahrir?) doesn’t understand the concept themselves.

Asma Afsaruddin is someone who does. She is probably the world’s leading academic expert on this topic.

Here’s a brief article she wrote about jihad a while ago (should only take about five minutes to get through) when ISIS were still prominent in the news:

She also authored this recent publication (which I have acquired but not got around to reading myself yet):

not reading all that shyte.

In a few words ? As far as I've always known it means kill or war with non muslims?

Lifes so complicated nowadays.
The word has been stolen by extremists to mean fight the struggle against whoever they feel fit whereas it is known to me to mean a struggle against one’s own impulses, to do the right thing.

I’m not of the Muslim faith, have friends who are though.

Hamas don't want a two-state solution. They want a one-state solution that doesn't involve any Jews, or even anyone who opposes them or who otherwise doesn't meet their views of what a society ruled by them should look like. No LGBT people, women as second class citizens, only one religion and one set of political beliefs.

And that's not some Islamophobic fantasy, because we've already seen it for real with their ideological brothers in ISIS and the Taliban. I'd say that the majority of Palestinians would swap Hamas for peace at this moment but they don't get that option.

Yet it's amazing how many on here decry Israeli violations of human rights while being happy to support organisations, or the aims of organisations, like Hamas. Funny how standards and principles get turned on their heads when it's Jews/Israelis involved.

That’s not the case, Hamas demand for the “Zionist project” to end but they declare their belief that the Jewish people and Zionist movement are not the same, further that all humans should be able to live free of persecution irrespective of religion. Now they do want a Palestinian state but equally see Jewish people (born or heredity) as much Palestinians as Arabs (if born in what they see as historical Palestine). Their 2017 document was taken as acceptance of a two state solution although it reads more as a one state welcoming of all religions and creeds.

Hamas’s 2017 document for reference https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/hamas-2017-document-full

Of course Hamas’s recent horrific terrorist actions certainly doesn’t sit well with their stated position.

Your apparent knowledge of exactly who’s responsible for what also speaks volumes.
Sums it up really. I was talking about 3 specific atrocities where the responsibility isn't even contested.

My point was that the absence of the word Israel in any of their public statements reflects the power imbalance.

There is only one person going in to bat for one side here and it's not me.

Saw a few of the protests included clashes with people carrying England flags. I can imagine this is going to kick off more if these Pro Palestine protsts carry on for a number of weeks.

Imo the protests need to stop now, they have made their point.
