Middle East Conflict

Turkey invading Cyrpus and it geting split in 2 is the only modern one I can think of. there are probably others but as you say, in modern times its rarer
Bangladesh, Eritrea, South Sudan...

Just seen a clip where there’s 2 kids are in absolute shit-state and think how it would feel if it was my kids or grandkids. How many Hamas have Israel actually killed, to cause this violence to the innocent?

Hamas need taking out for this but being the shit-bags that they are, they’ll be hiding in the shadows and if the IDF get close, laydown their arms and disappear into the crowd.

As for Qatar, who the fuck would trust a country that actively supports and hides terrorist groups. Oh, that’s it, anybody who wants a backhander, individual or state.

The violence started in the civil war of 1947/8 prior to the 1948 Israel Arab war.

It’s possible it could have fizzled out in the civil war and there were plenty of moderates on both sides. It’s correct to say that Israel was attacked by hostile Arab states under the banner of the Arab league and initially Israel suffered a few defeats before they could arm themselves effectively. The irony is I don’t think Palestine Arabs had much of a dog in this fight as they didn’t have any regular units.
Trying to sum up today's thread to and fro, this seems to be a common theme.

The violence obviously started before 1947.

The Arab opposition to Jewish immigration was for various reasons (and divisive within the Arab community). I can't pin down a specific quote for Arabs thinking that if they allowed a Jewish state on the UN boundaries then at some stage in the future that state might be governed by someone who wanted even more territory, but the reasons for opposition were multifarious, from simply "this is our land, we don't recognise Britain or the UN's right to gift it to someone else" to left-wing Arab youth nationalists who were against imperialism (and the Young Men's Muslim Association had Christian members). There were other splits (e.g. between those who trusted the British and those who had it right and didn't) - see the Muslim Congress in December 1931 (I've got a lengthy article but it's behind an academic paywall).

Can anyone give a good reason why an Arab Palestinian in the 1920s / 1930s would welcome the creation of a Jewish state in Palestine?

Just when you thought the depressing reports from the Israel/Gaza couldn't get any worse, along comes the BBC's Fergal Keane. He always looks so miserable and depressed while delivering his report in a funerial tone.

Well, there's always satire on Israeli TV...

I've commented on this sect and their views before. Here: https://forums.bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk/threads/israel-palestine-conflict.334241/page-341

The TL:DR version is that they're an extremist sect who believe only god can gift Israel back to the Jews, which he will do when the Messiah comes. But even then, it will only be true believers like them who'll be allowed to live there.

Everyone else - you, me, everyone else on this forum - god will destroy. And that includes the Palestinians of course.
I read your original
Post again and was unaware that this is whom you are talking about.

I’ll investigate more for sure, but on first evidence I can see that what you say they believe may be true, but I don’t initially get the same intimidation from it that you do.

As I said, I’m not religious. I don’t know if you are or not. But the impression I get from his belief in the bible is that he feels what is going on is unjust and only god would have the power to do what you suggest.

Fair enough I say. If you are going to wait for the second coming of the Messiah and you’re willing to do so peacefully, then whether you believe the rest of us are damned or not, doesn’t upset me.

I will delve more into their motives PB and I will happily take direction from within this thread but I will not take anything I read in here from either side of the argument as fact until I can satisfy myself it is so beyond reasonable doubt.

That goes for all. Not just yourself.

Whether you are correct or not, I actually find his reasoning regarding his view of the land and what is going on quite logical.
