Today’s the anniversary of a game where Middlesbrough wore MUFC shirts for a League game with MCFC. The full story with photos and video is free to read here:

Do you remember the day? I’m keen to hear from fans who do. If you do please get in touch at: https://gjfootballarchive.com/contact/ Thanks

Great write up as usual. I remember this happening but I wasn’t at the game and I’d forgotten the reason why they borrowed the shirts. Never liked Boro for a while after that, which is a bit daft.

I was there but always thought it was because the kit man had forgotten to pack the kit, that seemed to be the rumour on the terraces, but obviously not, cheers for clearing that one up Gary.

To slightly sidetrack the thread in the early 80's we played Preston reserves in the CL (Central League for any non-FOC's) and they wore our away shirt as they turned up with their white first team shirts and the ref wanted them in something else as we were in the usual at the time light sky blue.
Bloody hell I remember that lol, used to love the Central League games at Main Road, always remember the Rosler trial game when they took him off at half time.

Didnt we also wear our away shirts at home to spurs in the 80s ?

Ironically it was that awful decision taken by City to wear next seasons away kit at the last home game of the 2004 / 05 season which was v Middlesborough in what was a UEFA Cup play off final.
A decision that not one fan approved of - yet when I wrote to either Alistair Mackintosh or Sara Billington about it, specifically asking who suggested / supported that decision the reply I received said it was "supported by everyone including the manager".
Truly woeful decision.

It was a pure merchandise promotion. I was in the HoD meeting the following Monday when a few of us were critical. Maybe one day I’ll write about those meetings. Lots of odd stuff used to happen!

Vaguely remember we had to wear Barnsley’s shorts away at Oakwell. Lost 2-0 circa ‘96. We were absolute dogshit
