Why do people keep mentioning Veloso? We don't need another DM, and NO he's not a box to box midfielder AT ALL :(
Moutinho at Sporting CP would be much better! A talented young creative AM, which could be excellent backup to Superman. Sadly he wouldn't come to be a backup player as he's currently captain of his club...
He was in and out of the team last season anyway. Not worth anything close to £20m.

and when he did play it was largely at left back...

considering you just sent caciedo there on loan would you be happy to spend 20m on a player who cant get in that team?!?!

Good potential as a centre half instead of Toure??

Very good player, once quite heavily linked with the Rags as well as Bolton and Fulham, the latter two making serious attempts to sign this player.

We need one more in midfield but not the type of footballer like Veloso - good as he is - that we need at present in the midfield. Veloso is defensive and we will be picking up Toure and quite probably Lescott in the course of the next few days.

In order to provide more fluid movement and creativity to our midfield - desperately needed - Moutinho would be a good place to start. There aren't too many I can think of at the moment (Diego would have been ideal), but with Stephen Ireland and someone like Moutinho (or better) this would then have the making of a real Top 4 finish appearing more of a realty as the strikers will surely get the service that has generally been lacking since March 2009

I just had a thought. Maybe the fact that we are in competition with BOLTON for this player, may suggest hes not as good as some think.

in fairness to Bolton they're trying to show a bit of ambition and make progress.

Manchester City are set to scupper Bolton's move for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Miguel Veloso, according to reports.

Veloso has been a long-term target for Bolton boss Gary Megson and the Wanderers saw a bid rejected for the 23-year-old in January.

It has been widely reported that Sporting are willing to let Veloso leave for a fee of around £15million, with Bolton believed to be willing to pay around £12m for the Portuguese international.

However, it now looks as if City are ready to step in and grant the talented playmaker his wish of a transfer to the Premier League by matching Sporting's valuation.

City would also be able to offer bigger wages and Veloso could be heading to Eastlands.

I honestly think this whole Veloso thing is a case of the media just chipping City into the mix to spice up their story... Seem to get a lot of that lately, can't see much truth in this sorry!
