I liked him too, but was quite young at the time as wasnt aware enough really to see how good he was.

Nick Fenton was in the side at the same time.

There is no excuse for a club like City having a list of players like that & the same goes for clubs in any league here & in Scotland now, at any level.

There are too many people in football who are shite.

This. If you have a catchment area of 3m people and share the pick of the best youngsters from a young age and you can't produce a decent player then you don't deserve to work in football.

This is the youth team that lost in the final of the Youth Cup to Watford in 1989.
The number next to those named are the appearances in the first team they made.

Martyn Margetson 59
Neil Lennon 1
John Wills
Mark Peters
Gerry Taggart 13
Mike Quigley 13
Ian Thompstone 1
Ashley Ward 3
Jason Hasford
Michael Hughes 33
Michael Wallace
Sub Mike Sheron 119
Sub Colin Small
Total appearances = 242

how I wish Margetson made 59 less.

I was able to get to the reserve games around this time and it was obvious that our most consistent performers from that lot were Lennon and Thompstone.

Lennon went onto have a good career but Thompstone I think ended up at Halifax and teams of that level.

Tommo is a mate of mine. Went on to Halifax, Scunthorpe, Bury and Rochdale. Now works at Santander as financial advisor. Even got a mention on the City site

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.mcfc.co.uk/news/club-news/2010/april/this-week-in-city-history-060410" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.mcfc.co.uk/news/club-news/20 ... ory-060410</a>
It would be Thompstone’s only appearance for City, thus joining an exclusive – and perhaps – unwanted club of one game and one goal wonders...

Just because there are 3m people, doesn't automatically say one of them must be ''world class''.
Otherwise why are American's shit at football and they have how many millions of people ;)

Remember Mike Sheron being top scorer one year in the 90's with 6 or 8 goals. Think it was when Peter Reid was manager.
