good couple of hours. never knew there were no cameras at Newcastle when we won the league in 68 or in Vienna when we won the cup winners cup.A great man

When I was at Uni, the Uni football team got him as guest speaker at our end of season awards. I was the only city fan in all 3 teams, and at the end was the only one really interested in talking to him. I was too young to ever see him play, but was brought up on the legend around lee, bell and summerbee. Spent a good hour talking to him (around 1994...so there were not many good things to talk about in the present tense). Got talking about Derek Jeffries who I played cricket with at the time and who buzzer was very fond of. Derek was/is a hell of a character as well by the way (and a good cricketer). Anyway, it was a treat of an evening and buzzer was as down to earth as you can imagine. Top bloke.Heard a lot of the interview, really interesting. Sounds like a great bloke to hang out with

Excuse me but that adage is now an official TM of the Mid Cheshire M.C.S,C. Branch and can be seen quite clearly on our Branch Flag that sits proudly on SSL3 slap bang in the centre.Now unless you want a solicitors letter you should remove said wording. ;)

My Dad used to talk reverently about Best, even though he was a City fan, born and bred in Gorton, there wasn't as defined the tribalism back in the 60'sPoints well made about animosity to George Best, no need for it. Great player, big part of Buzzer's life and that part of the interview was full of interesting material about Buzzer, City and the football scene of the time. It's understandable that our (my)heckles get raised at times, because we all know that Talksport and the BBC struggle to focus on City without seeing us in the context of United. Around the hour mark there was heightened anxiety that a City story of some pride was drifting off for too long. It was a relief to realise there was another hour and things moved on nicely. Great interview. Mike's a good talker, open and says it as it is/was. Great insight into how football was back then. No interest in medals, just in being part of it. Great to hear how involved he still likes to be and how the club value and make use of our legends going forward.
It's only since the rise of hooliganism, and the holier than thou attitude of some, that there has been such clear lines drawn in the sand.

It's only since the rise of hooliganism, and the holier than thou attitude of some, that there has been such clear lines drawn in the sand.
Plenty of players from rival teams strike up friendships, that's old news, and who else but his best friend, to really get to the heart of the matter?
Like I say, points well made, Best was an important part of the interview. Regarding getting to the heart of the matter, I got concerned around the hour mark that Talksport might have forgotten the heart of the matter was Summerbee and City. Best and United have been well documented (Wogan, Parkinson, etc). Anyway, my concern was misplaced, it was a good interview and stayed with the heart of the matter very well. I've recognised my late night rant and will henceforth count to ten before I post especially after drinking rum ;)

Being a mere child by comparison, I wasn't born, but I do love hearing my Dad talk about that game, and how the bus buggered off without him and his mate after the game, and they ended up hitch-hiking back to Manchester in the early hours, receiving a very frosty welcome home when they finally got there.
