Mikel Arteta

So I assume this is purely a back office appointment and Arteta will not be part of the playing staff?

Not sure. But does it matter? One of the main thing to do as a manager in football nowadays is to get the right people around you. Pep seems to be very good at picking his staff. I'd like to see him travelling between 1st team and EDS to smooth the path of making the step by young prospects. And support Pep for his knowledge of the PL as a player for Everton and Arsenal. For starters ...

If I remember correctly, doesn't he count as Home Grown? He was constantly linked to an England call up a few years back.

He could be a decent back up if his inclusion is irrelevant in terms of squad numbers. At 34 he's not that old at all.

Surely he can be a slightly more useful Richard Wright.

It wouldn't be irrelevant, he would still take one of the 17 free places as the 4 homegrown places are taken.

Two things will stop him being in the squad.

1. He's not homegrown, but qualified to play for England through residency. He didn't come to England until he was 23.
2. He's retired.
