Mikel Arteta

It's a massive risk for him.

People around him including Pep and Pochettino previously, rate him very highly.

Will be very interesting to see.

They need someone with experience to steady the ship in my opinion and im not sure Arteta can offer that currently

How many more will we train in our method?
There are many players and coaches that have seen Peps (not our methods,) seeing and reproducing are 2 very different things. I remember Faldo talking about peak Tiger Woods saying I know what he does, we all do but reproducing it is impossible.

We can't lose with this one. If Arteta does a great job at Arsenal we can poach him back when Pep goes. If he flops we have dodged a bullet. Meanwhile Vieira could win the MLS with New York this season so he is still on the radar.

Agree
But let me put it this way how many will we allow to be poached? Who's next Vieira Kid

The rags said that several times...Kidd, Maclaren & that other chap. Never really worked against them though, did it?

I've only ever seen one real example of it working and there was an NFL coach(Bill Walsh) where 13 of his assistant coaches all ended up as Head coaches in the league. Aside from that I can't really think of another example of coaches learning a system then succeeding as well.

We are talking about the best coach in the world not a rag bully

It's not actually our method. City didn't invent positional play and nor did Pep. Pep has of course adopted and adapted ways of playing - he's an ideas thief by his own admission - and synthesised them into something that is his own interpretation and that will keep evolving but knowing the method(s) in of itself is no guarantee of success but it might help to make football more interesting and entertaining if more coaches adopt the ideas Pep does. What they won't have is his mind and his ability to read games and dissect opponents: that is a very rare gift that our manager is blessed with and what I suspect we will miss the most when he goes.

Arteta is different though most of his coaching/management team, and Arteta is a coach not his assistant certainly not a No 2, have been with him for a long time. Arteta was brought in partly for his premier league knowledge along with Kidd. He must be a very good coach but he won't be integral to what we do. It's up to Arteta but my guess is he would be better staying with us, but it won't damage us.

Will be a loss to us, especially given Pep's comments on how he's directly been coaching Sane and Sterling and helping them to improve their technique and movement.

Hopefully we can replace him with someone equally as tactically astute. Xavi or Iniesta!

Exactly we are trying to build not just a team but the coaching team that goes with it. If as soon as one of the coaching team shows any promise as a manager do we just let them wonder off

Some people will always move on; especially if an opportunity for genuine career progression comes along and, if that happens, you should not stand in their way. You just have to try and replace them with someone as good or better.

Well we can't chain them to the training pitch. It's like in any industry, if someone has an opportunity to progress their career by moving to another company (or in this case a team) then what can we really do to stop them.

It's up to Arteta if he feels the timing is right.

Arsenal will still have to pay us compensation for Mikel. If Mikel decides he wants the job then I would put a clause in it, that Arsenal are not allowed to buy any of our players unless they are willing to pay a premium of 25% over our asking for the transfer, for e,g. Arsenal want Sterling our fee would be say £160m so Arsenal would have to pay City £200m. Maybe better still they are not allowed to buy any of our players at all.
I still think this move is to early for Mikel as he has only been coaching for 2yrs at the most and it is a big jump from coaching to managing a big club like Arsenal., and being expected to go out and start winning some trophies more or less straight away

Doubt we need a clause to stop Arsenal buying our players, their wages and ambition will put paid to that.

If you wanted to leave your current job for another opportunity, can your employer stop you? No.
