Mikel Arteta

This is like giving an 17 yr old the keys to a Lamborghini.
Talk about in at the deep end...
He has never managed a team ffs!!

Arsenal will still have to pay us compensation for Mikel. If Mikel decides he wants the job then I would put a clause in it, that Arsenal are not allowed to buy any of our players unless they are willing to pay a premium of 25% over our asking for the transfer, for e,g. Arsenal want Sterling our fee would be say £160m so Arsenal would have to pay City £200m. Maybe better still they are not allowed to buy any of our players at all.
I still think this move is to early for Mikel as he has only been coaching for 2yrs at the most and it is a big jump from coaching to managing a big club like Arsenal., and being expected to go out and start winning some trophies more or less straight away

The idea that Arsenal is going to buy any of our players is hilarious

He could turn out to be the new pep, but just as easily be an unmitigated disaster. It is a ridiculous gamble by arsenal. I would be worried sick if they were my club

Looking ahead, if he does go, I’d love city to start to groom Vinny into that role, player coach for a year or two, then full time assistant in peps final year ready to take on the big job

It’s quite early for Arteta, and the job is needing immediate success. Missing out in CL for a few years in a row would be financially devastating to Arsenal, especially with Spurs recent improvements and their new stadium coming on line next season. They do not have the luxury of being in Spurs shadow for a few years while Arteta finds his feet.

However, they have put a structure in place at Arsenal for a coach, with their oversight in the backroom.

funny that arsenal are after signing somebody without a clue in management and only 2 years of coaching under pep its daft. just look at brain kidd at united great coach but when asked to be manager of a football club the lights turned on and panic set in and could not do the job its not the same being manager and boss you can go home without any baggage and blame for the cock ups you make

arteta should stay and work under pep and then look to take over when pep finishes the job and moves on he can only learn more about the game at city then at arsenal and with the arsenal needing a rebuild its never going to be easy at first and the fans will be moaning every week when it goes tits up

Good luck to him if he goes, but the Arsenal job is fraught with problems imo.

Unless the greedy twats in their board release the necessary funds to get players of the right quality remains to be seen. This is not an easy task for a manager with experience so it will be difficult for Arteta to achieve what is required,

If Pep wishes him well, and he chooses to go, then we should accept his decision too,

I thought it was nailed on that he would succeed Pep. He puts on all Pep's sessions - plugged 100 per cent into what Pep wants.

It's not actually our method. City didn't invent positional play and nor did Pep. Pep has of course adopted and adapted ways of playing - he's an ideas thief by his own admission - and synthesised them into something that is his own interpretation and that will keep evolving but knowing the method(s) in of itself is no guarantee of success but it might help to make football more interesting and entertaining if more coaches adopt the ideas Pep does. What they won't have is his mind and his ability to read games and dissect opponents: that is a very rare gift that our manager is blessed with and what I suspect we will miss the most when he goes.
People say Pep just continued with Cruyff's way of playing. Without doubt, Cruyff inspired Pep, but also without doubt the short quick passing with a purpose and winning the ball back rapidly, all done with a dose of flexibility is, at its most extreme, purely Pep.

If I was him I would stay with pep for the 3 years to learn from the master and then take over once the great man decides to move on, he is young enough to learn his trade rather than jump into the fire.

Who says Pep just continued Cryuff's way of playing? I'm interested: as far as I can recall, I've never seen or heard anyone say that.

Pep's taken loads of ideas and come up with his way of doing things but my original point was that there's nothing in there he can patent, and other teams and managers do similar things i.e. Arteta is not going to be taking away loads of trade secrets that will suddenly make Arsenal an unstoppable superpower.

I love Arteta, and the work he has done with us, however if I was an Arsenal fan I would be pulling my hair out. If the rumors are true, it's difficult to find the rationale for appointing someone who has no First-Team managerial experience into a massive club like Arsenal.

If I was a potential big-name signing for Arsenal, there's nothing appealing; the manager has no experience, the Board is only wiling to spend 50m (media talk); there's no CL footy; team performance is also shite. I would consider the club if I was perhaps a promising youngster, who wants international experience in England, into a well-known club; essentially I'd be using Arsenal as a stepping stone.

Could screw his managerial career from the off though, so his outlook also.
Everyone needs to take a risk at some point, just like Pep did when he took on the Barca job. I do think that Arteta should have taken some youth games last season though, if his aim was to go into management asap.

From a personal stand point, i'd much rather we groom Vinny to become a manager than someone like Arteta who has literally zero affiliation to City.

I understand Arteta wanting to take the job. I imagine he is offered a 3 year deal. Earning sustainability more than he does now as Pep's assistant. Even if he gets sacked he'll earn a lot of money. I'm sure they'll give him some money to spend but not too much.

His target will be to get top 4 again and it will be extremely tough with Arsenal's average squad. Their midfield and defense are both average with a good attack.

Can't blame him for taking the job, he has nothing to lose really. A unique opportunity for him.
