Millwall 0 City 1 1987

I remember this day well. I was only 16 and can't believe my ma n pa let me go!!

Remember pulling up to the ground and we parked on some waste land at the back of the away end.

As intimidating as it was, I can't remember any trouble whatsoever, but having said that, we were locked in for about 30 mins...

The goal was scored at the far end & to say there was a delayed reaction is an understatement..

Did we play Palace at Maine Rd before or after this when Nixon was sent off??

Happy days none the less!!

I think this game was just after the Palce defeat. We had alreay beaten Millwall 4-0 at Maine Road quite early in the season.

We travelled down in 2 cars. They had a right go at us going through the turnstiles i seem to remember. After the match it was heads down, quickly walk back to the cars. Thought we'd got away with it. No such luck - Millwall Sussed us out. Put the passenger side window through, his mate threw a couple of bottles etc. my mate who was driving, who admittedly was a fucking animal, straight out of his car, got stuck into them. By the time we'd got out to give him a hand the police had arrived. Never been so cold in my life by the time we got back to Manchester. Went to the (was it?) FA cup replay also. Wasn't this the game when the Guvnors had their result?

Ah yes, the old 'by the time we got out of the car to give him a hand the police had arrived' ploy ;).

My memory of going to the Old Den is on the tube how quiet it was - no one speaking as everyone was sussing out who was who ! The bloke sitting next to me broke the silence by whistling blue moon and i thought here we go !!
This was the 1-1 draw Mark Ward scored for us

Didn't go 1987, but did go to both 1990 Cup Games, and the whole atmospere at the 'Old Den' was very un-nerving with all the barbed wire around the Away end - also very quiet walking away with the Police escort to New X Gate - as if all hell was about to be unleashed. I remember the groan after the first match when they informed us over the tannoy that Milwall had won the toss for the 2nd Replay, and that we were due to come back down again next week.....

The 1999 game at the 'New Den' was a nightmare - kids who were not bothering to watch the game in the upper tier of each side stand, hurling abuse and whatever they could get their hands on at us behind the goal. Remember their fans running on the pitch whenever a decision went against them for Free Kicks! It didn't help at the end with us equalizing to make it 2-2 in the 89th - they wanted our blood!

We were kept in the ground, and Dennis Tueart came out after 45 minutes and said 'you don't want to go out there!' We eventually got out with a Police escort to take us to South Bermondsey and it looked like a War Zone- cars with windows smashed all the way along, houses with windows put through - Milwall had kicked off at the Old Bill, as they couldn't get to us....

The next time we were there (2001) under Keegan, our fans were banned due to THEIR fans behaviour towards us! I was working in London, and went with a Millwall workmate. These were 'normal', local Millwall fans - not hooligans, but I was told by the one who invited me not to let on. Was a tough game to watch if you were a City fan trying to stay quiet - Tiatto sent off, SWP's first City goal, and Huckerby celebrating his goal to an empty end, which was being renovated... We were much better than Milwall, and a 3-2 win just about did us justice... Milwall thought they had spied a City fan in one of the Boxes, and the whole place erupted. If it was a City fan, he would have been well advised to get out of there, as they would have killed him if they had got hold of him.... A lot of animals and idiot young kids seemed to be there... it's a shame, as I know some genuinely nice 'proper' local Millwall fans....

I watched that win at Millwall on the big screen on the Maine Road pitch , along with 5,000 other City fans .... only the kippax was open ..... it was a good night , everybody left happy , and that was a top goal from SWP !

I remember that. Didn't we then subsequently ban them from our gaff? Crazy.

was there myself. You could drink in the stand. I think that's the one where the gmr commentary was a few seconds ahead so you knew we'd scored before the shot had been taken.

Down at millwall, the shit of London
The lion sleeps tonight
Shaun wright Phillips on 83 minutes
Has beat the cockney shite

A win away, a win away, a win away, a win away....

I went once, 1990 cup game i think.

Went in the car, parked right behind our end and got away no probs afterwards as i recall it was a car park just for away fans and you drove through an industrial estate to get out.

Not a place for the feint of the heart.

On a related note, once on the way to Palace we were at London Bridge, about 8 of us and there were loads of lads knocking about. I think Millwall had Bristol City at home. As were walking through the station we heard a Big shout of Millwall, i thought fucking hell we are gonna die. Luckily for us it was Tommy Muir fucking about, the twat.
