City fans were attempting to smash up the coaches after the match, as I stood there watching it after coming out of the Kippax.

The battle inside the stadium resulted in the cavalry keeping Millwall inside the ground at the end as thousands of irate City fans massed on Claremont Road waiting for a confrontation .
The City fans were forced back up past the Sherwood pub towards Wilmslow Road by police who had dogs and others on horseback , before Millwall were let out and escorted , under heavy guard , back to town along Lloyd Street.
City fans in complete frustration started attackin' and looting businesses as they made their way to town along curry mile ......... i used to walk that way home back up to Belle Vue and i saw them do it ..... a few of them had replica shirts on , and were singin' city songs
Halfpenny said:Are there any pictures of this? I went to the next time we played Millwall when aways were banned.
Marvin said:I was sat right next to Millwall at the back of the North Stand. As soon as they got in the ground they took up the netting that provided a few seats empty segregation between the two sets of fans, and the stewards were powerless to stop them.Didsbury Dave said:Millwall brought a huge firm and got off the train at Stockport.
they had a scuffle with some Reds at Stockport station.
When they arrived in Mcr they were heavily escorted to the ground.
In the ground they threw seats and got them thrown back.
A massive City firm gathered outside after and had scuffles with the police, who succeeded in pushing them all the way back to Wilmslow Road. Millwall were kept in the grounmd then escored back down Lloyd Street.
City's lads made their way to town and smashed up some of the shops in Rusholme.
Attempts were made by both sides to meet but it never happened.
City later had a battle with United when they got back from Forest.
That's basically it.
There was no City firm in the North Stand as it was all City season-ticket holders sat in their usual seats.
After Terry Cooke's goal, Millwall started throwing coins and seats, and at that point the Riot Police waded in. Very little fighting, between fans in the ground, just a very bad atmosphere.
No idea what happened in Rusholme after.
