Milner [Merged]

I mentioned in two separate threads on Friday that while working at Villa on Friday night a member of the team staff told me the Milner deal was done at an agreed fee of £27 mil, however it included Ireland at a value of £9 mil.

The deal was delayed because Randy Learner was in the USA.

The only complication now O'Neill has gone is that a new manager at Villa may not want Ireland, I'm sure the Milner deal will still happen this week, as Villa need the money, they traded in the red last year for the first time in years and there are plans for further development work at Villa Park in 2012.

City may be shelling out £27 mil for Milner, but we may end up keeping Ireland.

Obviously learner has not told them what he's accepted because it's not 27m.

What've you heard shooter?

My prayers have been answered if this means Ireland stays and we get Milner. I guess we are still in the dark but there's hope now. :-)

(BTW I see Milner as big competition for Barry and Ireland being more of a Silva stand in. Both would get enough game time not to get upset.)

This transfer has become really interesting. It seems to have blown a major hole in Villas season in addition to causing much discusion amongst both sets of fans.

I would love to be a fly on the wall in the rooms the negotiations are taking place.

Reading between the lines Ireland never seemed that keen on going to Villa even with O Neil in charge, he has a big young family very settled in Manchester. THey wouldnt match his wages. Rumours of other bigger clubs interested.

He said in interviews (direct quotes) he knew VIlla and Sunderland were interested in him and he really wasnt interested in leaving city for those sort of clubs.

So what now, its hard to see any decent player leaving a stable club on the up with a realistic prospect of winning something in an area youa re already settled to a club without a manager it would seem in complete turmoil. Selling their best players on a regular basis.

When will villa have a new manager. A week ? 2 weeks ? will he want Ireland or his own signings, might have a different formation and different players in mind.

Surely Lerner will want as much cash in opposed to players to give the new manager a reasonable transfer budget.

I think we will still sign Milner but for pure cash Lerner will want rid of him and the cash in ASAP. Milner wont want to endure the wrath of the Villa fans who will no doubt blame him and city for some if not all this mess.

Now O Neil has gone maybe we will get him a bit cheaper on the cash only deal...

May mean Sunderland makes another offer for Ireland, we could have said no. Knowing Vlla liked the player and could be used as bait. Then again just could mean he will be staying. And other players would be leaving like Ned, and RSC.

Milner's move to Manchester City speeded up by Martin O'Neill's departure

Martin O'Neill's sudden departure has increased the chances of James Milner joining Manchester City before the start of the season.

Milner’s £20 million-plus transfer to City is earmarked to be completed after the 24 year-old midfielder has returned from England duty later this week.
O’Neill had expressed concern that he would receive all the money for new signings from the Milner deal when asked about the situation at the weekend.

Mancini wants to have Milner – and Italian forward Mario Balotelli – available this Saturday for City’s visit to Tottenham in their first Premier League game of the new campaign.

Mancini said: “We are close with both players but now they are going with their national teams. We hope that we can have these players by next Thursday.”

Meanwhile, former Villa striker Stan Collymore believes O’Neill was sold short by owner Randy Lerner during his time in charge of the club.

Collymore said: “Martin O’Neill is eminently frustrated with a lack of movement in the transfer market and a lack of backing to go out and buy players. People say he’s spent a lot of money over the last couple of seasons but you have to keep spending if you’re going to be competitive.

“The club was on its backside [when he took charge]. He dragged them up from near the bottom of the table into a position where they were challenging at the top and he’s brought in a lot of good, young English players.

“Villa’s in a good place as a club. As with all good quality managers, if they’re not getting the backing they think they deserve, they’ll turn their back on the club.

“Aston Villa needs to kick on. Man City are spending, Liverpool are spending. It’s not good enough for a club like Villa to be happy with sixth, seventh or eighth. Martin O’Neill wanted to take them on to the next level and he deserved the backing to try to do that.”
Former Villa manager Graham Taylor said he had been aware of unrest at the club during the off season.

“I’m shocked like everyone else,” said Taylor. “Whether this has anything to do with James Milner and his possible transfer to Manchester City and the fact that we are led to believe that he may have to sell to buy, I don’t know.

“It is a bad time to lose your manager before the start of the season and one has to be careful about who you appoint.”

LOL

on the bluemoon homepage, 1 article says that MON's resignation has speeded up the milner transfer, and the one right about it says that it has slowed it down.

Which is correct? id be willing to guess the one about it being slowed down.
