Milner / Sterling, so what's the difference?

He could have said something along the lines of "I had a fantastic 5 years at City. Liverpool are a great club with a great history and a manager I admire. It was a no-brainer to come here when I decided I wanted a new challenge."

Do we know he didn't? You know how City media conferences are reported and cherry picked by the media.

Milner is obviously as thick off the field as he was on it. Am I seriously reading he didn't get his chance in the BIG games? He was pretty much first name on the team sheet for BIG games for both Mancini & Pellegrini. Or are Derbies, CL must wins, Chelsea games not big games?

In fairness to Jimmy I don't think he started in any of the 3 cup finals or the final league games in 2012 or 2014.

He did play in a lot of very big matches but didn't tend to start or at times even feature in the glory games.

I think he made the point that the LC Final and West Ham games were affecting his way of thinking about signing
a new contract back in the Summer of 2014.

Jimmy was essentially a squad player who became a first choice in his final season.
He went for a large signing on fee and an easier life, in a far less competitive squad, to end his career.

Raheem is far younger and (dare I say it?) far more talented.

A couple of things are different.

We have at least 10 players who are better than Milner so no-one is that bothered. He leaves with our best wishes as we have won big trophies while he's been here.

Raheem was their star player. He's leaving a sinking ship and that hurts. It reinforces what they already know. In addition they know he is only going to get better.

So I as a football fan can see why they are pissed off and we are not. None of which excuses their appalling behaviour.
Agree him going is more like when sweep left us , only we didnt have delusions that at the time he was making a huge step down

One has retired and taken a pay day, the other still has his career ahead of him and wants to win trophies

They got a load of money for an average player as they say so why the bitterness. He's there best player and he knows he aint gonna fulfil his potential there. Liverpool still living in the past ur not a big club..

Just a thought; Unused Sub against Stoke;Unused Sub against QPR; Unused Sub as well against Sunderland. I know he came on from the Sub's bench against Wigan and I have absolutely no idea what he was up against West Ham.

In all seiousness, he hardly put a foot playing for City but at the same time you wan't Yaya, David Silva, Nasri etc and not some bit part player. I think I have now come to despise him as much as Billy does

Whilst I abhor the hypocricy of Liverpool fans over this move, let's not forget that we reacted the same way when Sturridge went to Chelsea. It's all part of the pantomime of football.

Remember this time last year and all the debates ....?

Keeping Yaya and losing Milner is much preferable to the opposite. A year later I'm very happy with how it is worked out.

Lets not get carried away with our own self importance.

If Milner is quoted as saying anything not too flattering towards the club, let him off.

Let the hysteria of cake-gate teach us that there's no point in being so easily offended.

Anyone who's ever followed City knows that the players have a genuine affection for everyone at the club and whatever the case they've paid us back with so much good times that we should be forgiving of almost anything.

Also , He said himself that he is there to be "the best player he can be". He'll play more in the center so maybe he'll get back to his excellent Aston Villa form and beyond. I wish him the best.

But he didn't say that he is there to win things (as far as I read and if he did then I'd laugh a little). Liverpool aren't going to win much.
