Because he gave the impression he wanted to stay. If he wanted to leave, he should have said so so we could have sold him for a decent fee, like Sterling did with Liverpool.

Gave the impression to who? I don't think anything was said in the open about his contract at all. We knew about as much about that as we do about Sterling now.
