Barry's irreplaceable. I hope it's not long term because we won't come close to winning the league without him.

He is a good player, but I wouldn't go that far.

i would. i dont know of a single player as good as barry at his job.

We'll soon have to think about finding one though,he's 32 in 6 months.....

Milner had his chance last season, took it very well was just getting to the top of his game as we ran through teams like a juggernaut and then suddenly and inexplicably he was dropped and never really started again!!

Milner was amzing early to midseason last year. It was strange. Barry was playing well, as usual, and was dropped for the derby in favour of Milner, who was also playing well. Milner was unstoppable that match. An assist or two if I recall correctly and was all over the pitch. Not to mention the Villa match (I think, I could be mistaken) where he passed the ball from the left at about the half way line to virtually the right corner flag and ended up finishing the move with a screamer.

Unfortunately he had a bad run while Yaya was away and was not at his best the rest of the season.

I'm with the OP though. I'd like to see him step up.

just thought the same thing, we need to start looking soon. he's a fit lad so we have a year or two yet i reckon.

Two to three imo, all things being equal. He hasn't got any pace to lose.

Milner's not really a direct replacement for Barry though is he, I mean in terms of playing style. I think he'll be the obvious choice all the same, unless we sign Martinez or someone like that, but he performs a different role to Gaz Baz.

Barry could last for another three seasons, he's the perfect kind of player to carry on in spite of age - doesn't depend on pace, does a simple job and does it well. But yeah this is Milner's chance, I wasn't at all impressed by his showing at the euros but I guess that's playing a totally different position in a far worse team so it doesn't tell us much. Let's hope he can be the Milner of early last season, early this season.
