Miralem Pjanic.

He has 3 years left on his contract and is regarded by many as their most important midfielder. Rugani and Higuain are being sold it seems so I can't can't understand why they would let him go this summer.

Hopefully the level of complacency on these forums is not reflective of the feeling in the team. So many people saying just because we won it easily with 100 pts last year, we'll just go ahead and do the same this year. Every season we all start at 0 and regardless of what we did last season and how we look on paper we still gotta go out and perform in the actual games.

Germany learned that at the world cup and hopefully it's a lesson to us. They had no major disruptions in their preparations, they were stacked with talent, people were saying there 3rd team was better than most of their competitors first teams. I think they arrived in Russia just expecting to win. Hopefully our squad is mentally stronger and hungrier than that. Hopefully our management is still stronger than that and will take measures in the transfer market to address obvious weaknesses in the squad and deficiencies that cost us in the champions league. You don't go from needing a player on the level of Jorginho to being able to make do with what you have. Definitely not saying Pjanic is the right answer, but we are short a player in central/defensive midfield to compete on 4 fronts. That's why we were in so early for Jorginho. Missing out in him hasn't changed that. The club identified an issue, they missed out on 1 solution, the issue still exists.
Brilliant post mate.

How are we being complacent??
Have we given up on pitch??

Just bcoz we aren't signing anyone makes us complacent??
Use these words when we don't perform on pitch and with Pep I'm charge,I don't think he will performance levels to drop.
This young squad is only going to get better and more experienced and more hungrier for success.
Not sure where the problem is

The two that scare me most are Ferna and Sergio. We have nothing else like either of them and there’s very little of similar quality on the market. Sergio in particular makes things happen for himself, and our only other ‘proper’ (for want of a better term) forward, Jesus, doesn’t. When he goes back to Argentina he’s gonna be one tough act to follow.
As regards defensive midfielders, there are plenty of playmakers out there, but not many with Ferna’s physicality. The number of defensive headers he wins, for a man of 5ft 9’, is astonishing
None of us realised how pivotal Dinho would become for us. He does everything exceptionally well & like you, I'm stupmed wehere we'll get another one like him, because I can't think of one.

Dinho's one of those once in a generation players who we'll have to accept that we'll need to get a different type of player to replace him. I'm more gutted we dropped our interest in Fred to pursue Jorginho in truth as I feel Fred would have been a better fit for us.

Sergio again is a legend, however I do feel he'll be easier to replace, albeit with a different type of striker. Having said that, in today's crazy market we'd be looking at £100m-£150m fee to replace him I'd imagine.

Being willing to pay that kind of money is one thing, but competing head to head with Real, Barca, PSG, & Juve, would mean it would come down to a players preference. How confident would we be in those circumstances?

That's why I believe our next Aguero will come via the same route as Jesus. When Jesus first came he put Aguero in the shade, but he's never seemed the same since that first injury. Hopefully he'll soon rediscover that early form for us.

Standing still whilst those around you improve isn't being complacent?

By doing so we're effectively putting ourselves in reverse gear.

Although we cant rest on our laurels and some of our fans are envious of what Liverpool are spending. I'm extremely happy with the squad weve got. Although we do have places in the squad we could strengthen, is it worth spending money on squad fillers as we have in the past.
Just think Mendy will be like a new signing, Mahrez is a great signing, B Silva is now settled in the squad. Sane is coming off a great season and had the summer off.

If there isn't anyone available better than the personnel we currently have what are we supposed to do?
