Hopefully the level of complacency on these forums is not reflective of the feeling in the team. So many people saying just because we won it easily with 100 pts last year, we'll just go ahead and do the same this year. Every season we all start at 0 and regardless of what we did last season and how we look on paper we still gotta go out and perform in the actual games.

Germany learned that at the world cup and hopefully it's a lesson to us. They had no major disruptions in their preparations, they were stacked with talent, people were saying there 3rd team was better than most of their competitors first teams. I think they arrived in Russia just expecting to win. Hopefully our squad is mentally stronger and hungrier than that. Hopefully our management is still stronger than that and will take measures in the transfer market to address obvious weaknesses in the squad and deficiencies that cost us in the champions league. You don't go from needing a player on the level of Jorginho to being able to make do with what you have. Definitely not saying Pjanic is the right answer, but we are short a player in central/defensive midfield to compete on 4 fronts. That's why we were in so early for Jorginho. Missing out in him hasn't changed that. The club identified an issue, they missed out on 1 solution, the issue still exists.

Good player.... but I just don't know where he will play. Yes having lots of depth is good, but you don't spend 60/70 or even 100million on a player and have them not be the regular starter. I just don't see him as upgrade to Merlin or KDB and he isn't defensive enough to play for fern. Doesn't make sense to me.

Neither was Jorginho

With that said, Pjanic is probably even less defensively able than Jorginho.

Having seen us not land Jorginho, linking us to Pjanic smells like obvious opportunism by Pjanic's agent to improve his Juve contract

This is my concern.. Complacency. So many teams win the Premier then do jack shit in the off season assuming all of those players that were in form last season will stay on form. What if one gets an injury.. Or has something personal happen that throws them off their game.. Then we are screwed. Its time to push on, not be complacent.

Can you explain fully why we are being complacent?

I get the impression that we could buy everyone and you and others would still flap - get a grip ffs

Headline coming soon

Breaking : Juventus Football Club are happy to announce that
Miralem Pjanic has signed a new contract that will keep him at the club till 2022.

Flapping? You may have jumped the gun there just stating historically clubs that have been complacent after a winning season tend to have a weaker f/up season. We can't buy everyone I know and I am not expecting that.. Just no back up for fern is a risk.. I am allowed to make a comment without you getting emotional and stating I am flapping aren't I?

That's just a spoof headline for what maybe will come soon, Pjanic hasn't signed a new contract, and if he does we move on, Pep knows we need cover for Fern.

Squads for those seasons had to cope with player losses in transition. De jong, tevez, balotelli, negredo, lescott, Demichelis to name a few, this squad has no transition, younger, still hungry and has ample cover...relax
In truth, this is the season I'd have gone for broke & completed the building of our squad just as we should have done after those title wins. We didn't & we saw exactly what happened, so we can't afford to stand still with a squad containing Silva, Fernandinho, Kompany & Aguero who are an injury away from creating a disaster for us.

We know we desperately need cover for Dinho. Delph may have saved us from buying a specialist LB, but we need another LW player to adequately cover & challenge Sane, just as Mahrez will challenge Sterling.

We're not too far off in truth, but just as I said last season, our injuries & fatigue will define this current season & that's why I went a bit leftfield & called Delph as my PoTS.

Yes Gundog did admirably well when covering for Dinho, but his injury record & lack of physicality worry me. However injuries aside, is Jorginho any better than Gundog? I'm not so sure because Jorginho has never stood out as anything special when I've seen him play & our interest in him frankly surprised me somewhat.

In terms of CM we have 2 of the best in KDB & Silva, but after them, the who? Bernardo I believe will be groomed to play more centrally & Foden can't be relied on as a mainstay to challenge & cover for David Silva, & Gundog has never done it there for me, so again we need proper cover there too.

I'd even test the water with Chelsea for Fabregas as someone who knows the Barca way & the PL, & is at an age where Foden, Diaz & hopefully Manu can shadow & learn from him over the next 2-3 seasons.

So I believe we need 3 world class additions at LW, CDM & CM. That would put the shits up the rest & show some seriously bad intentions for the coming season. From then on the squad would take care of itself.

The two that scare me most are Ferna and Sergio. We have nothing else like either of them and there’s very little of similar quality on the market. Sergio in particular makes things happen for himself, and our only other ‘proper’ (for want of a better term) forward, Jesus, doesn’t. When he goes back to Argentina he’s gonna be one tough act to follow.
As regards defensive midfielders, there are plenty of playmakers out there, but not many with Ferna’s physicality. The number of defensive headers he wins, for a man of 5ft 9’, is astonishing

The advantage we have mate, is that we are well aware of the requirements, especially so with regards to replacing Sergio. I’m sure we are “on it” and will already have a shortlist of who we are currently working on ahead of making that purchase next summer.

Agreed we definitely need cover for Dhino and I am confident Pep has someone in mind. In relation to Sergio again I would like to think the club are starting to search for his replacement I would go for Dybala a similar type of striker but whether Juventus would let him go is another matter.

Well we need another midfield player but surely a deeper lying one? Unless Merlin is gonna drop deeper?
