I dont bother at all with people from work out of the workplace, whereas they all do. Very insular bunch. I know this is to my detriment with them because people generally dont like what they dont know, it makes them insecure that someone is different because the rest are all like clones.
In work, I am friendly and polite to all but only because I know that we all have a common goal which is to get a job done and being on terms with people makes that easier. But they are a bitchy horrible lot who slag every else off because they all think they do the job better. Its actually boring to listen to, and you just know that when you arent there you are getting it too - or other depts and areas are doing it about you.
Very odd all round really and I feel better than I am comfortable enough in my own skin to not have anything to do with them out of work or give much of a fuck what they think when I am in work

Im retired now and have worked with hundreds of people
How many are mates now ?

None, just the odd friend on facebook

work colleagues are'nt your real mates, you find them elsewhere

my advice ...stop trying, when you leave or they do, that'll be it

exactly - I have moved jobs a few times and yeah out of sight out of mind applies. You find yourself keeping in touch with the odd one here and there but for the most part you realise they only respond to you when you rattle their cage and ultimately aren't bothered about you. Not real mates just people you spend a long time with in the same space so best to try and get along with some of them but don't expect lifelong blood brothers shit

Uncle Wally that's my company to a tee !! I found myself back in the job market after 20 years of doing a job I loved and I thought I had landed in a parallel universe!!! I work in a department where they are all friendly to each other face to face, but as soon as one isn't around they will pick that person to bits like a wolf pack on a carcass!!! It's always someone else's fault never theres, constantly trying to get people into trouble over minor things, was told by a jumped up secretary that I was lucky to have a job the other day and I should work harder , she was painting her toenails at her desk as she said this and could not see the irony in her statement !!!!

maybe she works in the Toe Nail Painting Department and was putting in maximum effort?

Blue thru didn't see the end result of the toe nails, but if she was true to form it would have been half a job done and not her fault that the job was not correct !!!

This 100%. I left a huge company after 25 years and keep in touch with one person due to City. Where I work now I don't put much energy into socialising with them.
