Modric to the scum

For those asking no news on Modric. #mufc source tells me it's unlikely due to fee involved and Kagawa's arrival but wouldn't rule it out.
In other words we have to make out we are interested for the fans sake.

Must have been a quiet news day for The Sun!

Levy is no mug, if United are daft enough to go for this overrated fraud, he will ensure it's closer to the money Chelsea were offering.

Modric is shite and United would have yet another central midfielder who can't score goals.

What they need is a Yaya not a lightweight who drifts left every time the going gets tough.

Remind me again how Modric has carved us apart in recent seasons?

Stick to transfer rumours, TH. Modric is top quality in the Scholes of ten years ago bracket. He's exactly what they need right now. Just because he might be going to the scum, doesn't suddenly mean he's shite. If we signed him, then everyone on here would be chuffed. I've watched him closely at our place for the last 3 seasons and he never gives the ball away, comfortable in tight spaces, always looking to play someone in, inch perfect passing ability, can drop of or make runs into the box, controls the game from the center.

IMO much better than Sneidjer and Schweinsteiger as he has premiership experience. Can't tackle for shit, but neither can Xavi or Iniesta. If they get him for 25m, then I can see one of their lot going the opposite direction. (Carrick)

Unbelievable, so you are basing your analysis on watching him against us for three seasons?

To mention him along Scholes is just ridiculous. Modric is no youngster, Scholes was doing it from the age of 20.

He is exactly not what United currently need and any United fan who does tell you that is simply lying or knows nothing about football, simply because they might be signing a 'big' name.

I've watched Modric at close quarters (live) for years, as I have with some of the very best, so please don't be arrogant enough to tell me to stick to transfer rumours.

Again, you also mention Sneijder and Schweinsteiger, football is all about opinions, but you are clearly seeing something which is not there.

He is a careful water carrier, and United will have nobody in the middle to protect him, as Parker has done.

Quality TH. Do you ever get bored of putting the BM masses in your pocket? :)

Granted its the Daily Fail but whilst you may think you dont want to sign him Bobby fancies him. If I'm not mistaken he was our number one target back in March?!

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2122581/Manchester-City-want-Luka-Modric.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footba ... odric.html</a>

Transfer window not open in march?! Who said he was our number one target other than the worst 'news'paper on the street? They make it up as they go along.
Bobby 'fancies' him - whats that mean exactly? Far too vague.

Mancini (bobby?) probably admires a lot of footballers. If the question is phrased "Do you think Modric is a good player"? He would probably answer "yes" - that isnt the same thing as saying he wants to sign him.

I think its fair to say that there is more chance of Ronaldo ending up in our shirt. Its just not going to happen - and a good thing too.

Pedantic much??

Just rehashing a story that hit most media outlets back in March. Not suggesting that the transfer window was open at that time but thank you for pointing that out!

That's not being pedantic - you stated a big fact; that he was our number one target in March. Either he was or he wasn't. I don't believe he was ever that. If he was, then back it up, because the whole premise of the thread is based on it. If it was the daily mail back in march - then I hardly think that's worth starting a bloody thread about! We wont be buying Modric, we've got better already for one thing, and for another he's totally overrated and a big girls blouse......................

Frankly, I get a little grumpy about folks making big statements, here and in the media, supposedly based on facts, that can't be backed up and turn out to be bullshit.

Tolmie is spot on isn't he. Modric has been anonymous in many games this year that I have watched and is very, very reliant on Sandro or Parker to do all the work.

£40million is an offer they should have taken. He is worth no more than Tiote in my opinion and is built on hype. The next team he signs for will regret the fee if he costs anything more than £25.

As for fee, it's a pro-United article. The same happens with RVP wioth Cross. What happens is that the journo jots a figure lower than they think their team should pay i.e £25mill for Modric and £10mill for Baines I have seen. Both command higher (hype or talent) and the journo hopes to unsettle player and set a kind of benchmark fee. RVP when sturggling with negotiations suddenly cost £25mill by John Cross just so he set a bench mark.

Clubs talk to certain journo's for interviews and those journo's pay favour with these type of articles. That's from what I know anyway.

I don't rate Modric as highly as others and if he went to Utd or anywhere else I would not be thinking we've lost out. Yes he is a good player but I don't think he is a great player and think there are better players out there.

I don't think our squad needs a lot of new players 3 or 4 maybe 5 at the most. What we do need is to get the deadwood out.

Anyway, surely great players consistently perform? If you look at the last three seasons, Modric's stats are:-

11/12 36 games 4 goals 6 assists
10/11 31 games 3 goals 3 assists
09/10 21 games 3 goals 4 assists

ave 29 games 3 goals 4 assists

Silva's average over 2 seasons is:-

ave 31 games 5 goals 13 assists

Yeah but Modric plays a deeper role so it's a bit unfair to point out his goals and assists. That said I don't think he is as good as some make out either, I wouldn't spend the sort of money Spurs want on him.

If Modric wants to defo move we will see that in his performance in Croatia's first game...and i doubt the rags can afford him if he plays well unless they spunk their budget on him...

But hey they do have history to throw into any deal !!!!!!

Ok if we compare Modric to a more defensive player how about Barry? His three season (league stats) average is:-

Games 32 Assists 4 Goals 2

Not too dissimilar to Modric

Barry and Modric are completely different players.
