When Pep has had another window we will have a better idea where this team can go. I'm not going to bash Sane, Sterling etc as a young energetic team is what I want to watch. Not this sideways crab stuff like Ray Wilkins used to play. Tottenham are a team with the right philosophy and although I personally dislike them greatly they are a team you can see progress with.

All this - 'we have to attack' angle that he kept coming from in his pre-match comments definitely had an impact on the midfield he chose.
He overthought it - Yaya has along with Silva been our best midfielder since he came back into the side, so why drop him? To be honest, we probably would have stood more chance with the extra protection of dare I say it Fernando in there too. Try and keep it tight and hit them on the break - I guess thats easier to say in hindsight as our defence is so fucking bad that playing him probably wouldn't have worked either.
Kolarov CB in the last 16 of the CL - jesus wept.
I think it's very easy to blame the tactics with hindsight but there's plenty of people on here who've been saying for weeks that attack attack attack is the best we can go with given our squad at the moment. I nearly had a heart attack when i saw the team he picked against spurs but it was potentially the best we've played all season. Our game changing players just didn't show up tonight at all. Also, yeah it does seem a bit weird to think Kolarov is deemed our best option alongside Stones for a match like this, but its a moot point as he definitely wasn't a weak link tonight.

De bruyne has been brutal for ages now yet he keeps getting picked. Had he been substituted in time we would still be in the competition. Cant defend so we are out. For fucks sake we had a 2 goal lead yet couldnt get the job done. Pep has to carry the can for that.

Daft statement as Wenger had plenty of success as well in that 20 years to add balance.
Biggest game of the season, you would expect us to be chasing down every loose ball and trying to win it back. Instead we sauntered around giving the ball away regularly, not chasing back and leaving the defence exposed. The second half showed that Monaco aren't really that special. Again Aguero misses a big chance, it's been happening all season and why I think we will cash in on him in the summer. And what type of studs are they wearing, slipping all over the place.

Pep's fault was playing De Bruyne in a more advanced role & not playing Otamendi imo. Otamendi is shite but he's better than Stones & Kolarov.

We very rarely seem to block crosses. Noticed that with Stones in the build up to their first goal; didnt really even attempt a block
We couldn't block the free kick ;)
I agree but at least we should be able to defend them better. We lack defenders who have an actual defenders instinct for danger.
Our FBs are so bad. It is dragging this team down. Undoubtedly, almost everyone will disagree but I would take any other PL teams set of FBs ahead of ours.

Even at 88 minutes we were still passing it sideways,backwards in this metrome shit Pep insists on.
Pep is not a genius, he inherited the best squad in football and shone in 2 team leagues. Even then I expected more of him than Pelligrini delivered. Standing on the touch line waving his arms and pointing this way and that in between clutching is head is more Stuart Pearce than genius.

1st half - you have to expect them to fly out of the traps, it was far to slow, no one could be arsed trying to get near the ball and we paid for it.
2nd half much better and shit marking from a cross cost us.
The whole team didnt play well as a collective i would probably say with the exception of John Stones who looked not bad tonight,
to name a few that stood out tonight as being utter garbage all game -Sterling (who has been so good all season) - both full backs ( how hard can it be to put a cross in which isnt over hit or past the first man) - KDB was poor for his standards.
How do we solve this? buy half of the monaco team namely Mendy and Fabinho and Lemar

always seems that we need 20 goal occasions to score a goal and the opponent only needs one or two.
I completely agree, the players crumbled under the lights if you ask me. People hate the idea of Messi for 100 million but we need a player to drag this team by the balls over the lineSadly some players, not for the first time, have been found wanting and in patches it was not too disimilar to Madrid last year. The failure to retain the ball and make the correct decisions in that first half was shocking.
Still we know were not there yet and certain players failings get magnified in games like this. Our Achilles heel this year has been in both boxes and the fact some players are scared to take responsibility.
