Not a red card. The double jeopardy rule for DOGSO was changed last summer. He made an effort to get the ball and didn't deliberately try and take him out or go in studs first.

Definite pen. Keeper's leg was in agueros path after he'd put the ball past him. If aguero carries on running he'd have stamped on keeper's leg, hence why he 'dived'
 
What a game. Have to say Monaco has some great talents. They really hurt City the first 70 minutes. Luckily a game is 90 minutes.
About the referee controversy: I actually thought he was brilliant. In my mind, Aguero was a little too eager to go down and that's why he didn't get the penalty. I wonder if his reputation in Spain is the reason behind his yellow card.

98% of penalties wouldn't be given if your "eager" rule existed.
 
Having watched the goals last night and again this morning we didn't do much wrong for their goals. Yes, we could have got tighter to the ex Rag for his header, but Dihno was all over the place; he isn't a Left Back so we can give him a bit of slack here. Otamendi and Stones made errors. The second goal for the Rag I though he eased Stones to the ground as he was off balance more than Stones dived in; very clever forward play and immensely difficult to defend against. He made up for it with the goal though, and never hid all night.

Our goals were all good. Aguero was in danger of getting hooked at HT, but he came out in the second half a different player. He practically ran the show. Once Zabba came on we just clicked into gear.

Aguero pen? Nailed on.

Otamendi challenge? Not 100%; probably penalty, but why did it take so long? Same official that kept his hands in his pocket when Aguero was felled obviously plucked up the courage to open his mouth. Definitely something suspicious going on there.

Willy? 100% not his fault for their headed goal. Dhino should have anticipated the out ball, and we would have been away up the field. Unfortunately he was caught sleeping, and subsequently they scored. Penalty save? Not the best pen in the world, but he held on to it and changed the outcome of the game; at 1-3, we are dead and buried.

Over all a good win against an incredibly fast attacking team.
 
What a game. Maybe one of the greatest I've ever seen. We're so blessed to have the players that we have and the coach that we have. Hard to analyse the madness. Key things for me were Sterling/Sane get better with each passing week. Kun played 2nd half like an absolute beast. A monster. Performances like that will see him stay at City for many years to come. Toure deserves a new deal. KDB/Silva is the best midfield pairing in Europe. We can win this tournament even with Otamendi and Kolarov as key defenders in the team.

A little eager? He was leaning forward a millisecond before contact. Count to one in your head and now imagine a millisecond. It's nothing.

For what it's worth, that doesn't matter and the keeper still fouled him, even if you think he looked for it.
 
Im pretty sure that should still be offside.

Mane is technically in an offside position because there's only the keeper between him and the goal. It doesn't matter if he's behind Aguero, because Aguero plays the ball forward, not backwards.



What a Match last night........on a lighter note they're having to explain the offside rule and when away goals count on Red Cafe

Didn't do much wrong for the goals! I'm not sure about that! The second goal was ridiculous and the other two poor.

Having said that had we been perfect, it wouldn't have been the game it was. Football is supposed to be entertaining and even if we do go out, I would rather us go out like that than the pathetic performances against Madrid last season.

100% agree. You can dive when you are fouled, you can fall over when are not fouled. If a yellow is given for every dive irrespective of if it is a foul or not and a pen is given for every foul irrespective of it being a dive or not, it would stop a lot of this nonsense and make the decision making easier and clearer for the ref. The fact that you don't have a chance of getting a pen if you don't go down is putting players like Sterling and to a lesser degree Aguero (that is players who run at pace into the box a lot) in a difficult situation. His first thought should be try and create or score a goal knowing that if someone fouls him he will get a pen if he is illegally stopped.
 
Now that the dust has settled, I'd just like to say the biggest thank you in the world to our beloved Manchester City and our French counterparts Monaco.

Why you may ask?. The reason is last night I witnessed one of the best nights football I've ever seen. Two attacking teams brimmed to the top with brilliant players, going toe to toe and goal for goal, that produced a footballing spectacle. Monaco are the best I've seen and you can see why they are lauded so much and top scorers in the champs league (I think?), but we matched them and bettered them with Sterling, Sane, Silva, Aguero, Yaya and Caballero being the stand outs. I could go on and on about this game last night, but I might end up pulling my willie out of socket.

Please don't let the media, pundits etc cast a cloud over the defensive side of things, and being ever boringly critical. Just enjoy what we saw last night from a bunch of brilliant attacking footballers, and brilliant attacking coaches.

That was football real football.

What was most impresssive is that this Monaco team is the best attacking force we have played since Klopp's Dortmund. If we don't knock them out they could easily win this competition. City were fantastic. Forget the moronic pundits. They slagged Manchini for being boring and Pellegrini for being too adventurous when we won two trophies and scored 156 goals..the biggest ever total in football history. Now they can't wait to get stuck into Pep. The bottom line is we are the most exciting team to watch in Europe. Just lap it up.
