Monaco post match

we should go there sit back and counter fast direct
We should go there and do whatever the manager wants, his style won in style tonight despite not having that penalty in the first half, no blatantly offside goals or dives either, have a think about that.

Quite unbelievable. Ive watched City since 1968 and tonight has to be up there with one of the all time great team performances. Gutted no Sterling for the return leg he really now makes a difference. We have to believe we can get through after tonight.

Some of bummings we are giving out in this competition this year are fucking scandalous.

That 5th goal was from another planet. Just watch it.

Is there anyone out there who could genuinely outscore us?

My observations:

1. The game
Fantastic entertainment. Top notch attacking from both sides, shit defending. Totally bonkers match

2. Our team
In previous champions league campaigns we've had the talent but not the desire. Tonight was the opposite for me tonight. There are big obvious flaws in our team at present (injuries, etc, playing their part) but the players showed A LOT of heart to dig that out tonight. Stones and Willy making amends for their errors was a brilliant example of this. Sterling and Sane were excellent throughout and we've got an exciting few years coming up if we can fill the obvious holes in our squad (full backs, CB, DM)

3. The media
Fucking disgrace tonight. The usual major footy twitter accounts were doing their Empthad shite but even the broadsheets were at it. The ToryGraph reported as news the fact that there were some empty seats (due to the security fuck up AGAIN!) and even used a pic of the players warming up in an empty stadium.

The pundits weren't much better - Savage banging on about empty seats on his twitter. Collymore has just posted a bizarre "187th highest attendance for a Champions League match in Manchester" tweet. The BBC, after we'd gone 5-3 up, commented on their live feed that Monaco would go through with a 2-0 win at home! Factually accurate, but WTF?!?!?

The club needs to grip this now and start banning these fuckbuckets

4. The officials
Defo pen and red card, completely missed. I'd say "Agenda" but the amount of yellow cards dished out shows that the ref tonight was totally fucking inept.

On the Otta pen, in real time that looked like 'no pen'. We're told the 5th official gave it. Footage post game has the ref looking straight at him and he appears not to give any singnal it was a pen, but the ref changed his mind.

Ref took an age to make his decision.....enough time for a replay - which showed it was a pen. Pen then given. This, like the Bournemouth disallowed goal a few weeks ago shows me that refs are being fed decisions from off the pitch using video technology. All completely clandestinely. Totally wrong, even if the "right" decisions are being made.

That was a special game. Would've been much simpler had we got the definite pen and red card. But it became a classic City victory. Willy mistakes then two great saves, Stones on his back then scores a goal. Could hardly choose between Sané, Sterling and Silva but will give Sergio motm for his involvement in 3 goals. Oh what a night!

What a game, flipping phone died 50 mins into the match. Honestly thought we'd lost it but what a response from the lads. Delighted for stones and kun for their respective goals. Who said we lacked character? I look a fool now for some of my posts in the match day thread. A proper 'typical city' performance. Time for a rum and coke, wishing every blue a good night.

More and more impressed with Sane everytime i see him play.
This isn't him just going forward either.

At one point in the second half Monaco started a break down their left, and Sane did the best Road Runner impression bombing diagionally across the pitch from left wing, ending up near the right side of our box, enabling us to get some numbers back in defence.

We are basically a defensive unit away from being an incredible side, much like Monaco actually. All of our mistakes come from the back 5, there's no discipline and too many individual errors. Getting Kompany back for that game could make the difference, I'd feel far more comfortable sitting a bit deeper and hitting them on the break with him in there. Overall a fantastic result and our ability to bounce back during games hasn't been seen in a long time.
The difference we have over Monaco is that they were out on their feet in the last 20 minutes.
