Month without alcohol for charity

I reckon this could be really hard for someone who regularly drinks.

I'd get a pint glass and put money into it everytime you feel like a drink. at the end of the month you'll see how much money you save - put this towards the charity as well.

Myself, many men have fallen to alcohol in my ancestry - knowing this since being a kid I can take or leave alcohol. I usually leave it, only have a drink when watching City.

I could use the money in the pint pot for a massive piss up at the end of the month!! ;-)

Just for the record I usually only drink two days of the week at most, but it does relax me when I do. It's also very hard to avoid in my line of work, at my age (particularly being recently single), and in the alcohol-obsessed nation in which I live. Don't think that makes me alcoholic, and that's coming from someone with alcoholism in the family.

As for no health benefits, obviously good for the liver, helps efforts to improve fitness and encourages exercise, reduces cravings for the wrong sorts of food, I could go on but think the point is made.

I'm going without alcohol in September to raise money for charity (and hopefully provide some health benefits). Going okay in the early stages but got a feeling the cravings won't be far away. To make matters worse, broke up with my girlfriend of 3 and a half years the day before the month started, she's a City fan just because of me, but I digress ...

Anyway, anyone done the month without alcohol thing, and any advice?
Done it before, but not since as it's not much fun, especially on match days.

You'd be surprised how easy it is to have a drink without anyone knowing. I find leaving quarter bottles of spirits hidden in certain parts of the house and garden make an ideal remedy to any jittery feelings you may get.

Piece of piss, did 8 months off a few year back because I simply couldnt be arsed, I had a mega NYE and a 3 day hangover, I was stopping drinking for a month, that led to 3 then 6 as I thought I would go out on my birthday (end of June), couldnt be arsed going out for my birthday and went through to September.

Last year I took 2 months off, I was in training for a week long charity bike ride, 6 months previous of training things had gone well, I dropped the booze for 2 months before the event, still went out just drove, but the weight came flying off and the fitness improved massively.

If you cant do 30 days then go and see the Doctor as you have a problem.

I stopped drinking about 4 months ago due to the gym and its not bothered me one bit! Ive had to binges in them 4 months at family do's but It genuinely doesn't bother me and I feel clear headed a lot!

I did it for a month a few years ago for charity. It was fine when i was at home but bloody terrible when i went out with the lads. After a few ales it is incredible how much crap is spoken and how much unfunny stuff is laughed at.

That'll be the dodgy charlie from Mary D's that GSC says he doesn't do nowadays.
You're right - he has fucking changed.
