Morgan Gibbs-White

Wirtz is us throwing our weight around. You can't sign superstar after superstar, you need some who compliment others - MGW would be that.

The 22/23 Summer window we signed Haaland, Alvarez (when he joined up), Ortega and Akanji - not all superstars but we went on to win a treble.
Sure, but let’s not forget that during the treble season City had world class players in key positions. Prime KDB, Gundogan, Rodri, Berna all played at a crazy level, and Ruben Dias was one of the best defenders in the world. It was not just Pep or the system. The core players were elite. And if this summer KDB, Berna and Gundi all leave, they will need to be replaced with players of the same world class level. You cannot just put in decent or average players and expect the same results. These guys were leaders and made the difference in big games. Back then we had the best midfield in the world, which sadly is no longer the case.

Yes but this is a rebuild and nobody should expect year one of a rebuild to be a treble winning team,if they ever do it’s a very difficult thing to acheive. It took that team a few years winning leagues and cups, getting to CL quarters and semis before they became a treble winning team.
This next team will compete for leagues cups and challenge in the champions league,it will be full of players that become world class, but it will probably be 2 or 3 years until they may become a team that might win a treble.

Some recent players that carried middling Prem teams and moved to top clubs off the top of my head. Raphinha, Olise, & Rice. Not too shabby... It is much harder than it looks, and these players often succeed at the top level. I have no reason to believe MGW will be any different. He's clearly elite in transition, but also seems to have the guile to beat low-blocks. Quality player and English. Think he would look excellent in our midfield. Hope to see it done.

While I see your point, we could have Wirtz and Rodri will be back, Dias looks back on form, Gvardiol excelling with every game, Marmoush is an upgrade on Alvarez, Foden another year older. Khusanov a fantastic signing.

It’s on the wing I think we lack (now, not in a few years) with Savinho and Doku’s relative inexperience so could be an area we concentrate on in the market. Especially if Grealish goes/moves central. Unless we go out and get a marauding full back.

Don’t mind it if he’s brought in as the 8. Still a bit expensive and we probably wouldn’t have gone for him if he wasn’t English. If he’s brought in as the 10 then Im seriously questioning it.
Where does Marmoush play when Haaland is back. If its as a 10/Second Striker/AM then with Foden here also, why would we need MGW who’s not an 8 (not played there hardly while at Forest).

2 x full backs and 2 x wingers required!! Or if Marmoush goes wide 1 x winger and one AM

Kalvin carried Leeds :-)
Grealish carried Villa
Sinclair carried Swansea
Zaha carried Palace
Bony carried Swansea
Kinkladze carried City

It can be a sign of talent, application etc but it could also be a big fish in a small pond

Erling and Alvarez were.Akanji and Ortega cost next to nothing.
Mgw would be a waste of 60 odd million.I get your point of players like Say De Jong,Barry and Clichy say who compliment the superstars.Just for me Mgw would be an error.

These lads did not carry their teams ike the guys I mentioned. And including Grealish on this list tells me everything I need to know about your takes lol. Would not have a treble without big Jack. Would pay his fee again without hesitation, and so would Pep. One of a kind player.

I get where you’re coming from, and I really hope Foden steps up, but to be honest, this season he’s been miles off what we need from a player in his role. He’s got the talent, no question, but talent alone isn’t enough at this level. His decision-making and impact in games have been nowhere near convincing. I’d love to see him prove me wrong next season, but based on this year, I’ve got serious doubts.

So you are saying Bony’s 1 goal every 2nd game were not important for Swansea.

Zaha was not important for Crystal Palace.

We would have won CL earlier if it was not for Jack’s woeful finishing. The reason we won so much were because of mr Whippy, KdB, Kompany, Aguero, Yaya, Silvax2. Those were the guys that delivered when it mattered and were worth every penny. Jack is like Nunes, Jesu, Zinch. He lacks the mentality.

It is a bit like saying red scouse would win the PL without out Sallad.

Not meant to discredit the other lads. Bony was bought to be a backup, and was never seen as the level to replace Sergio. Zaha was best suited for a counter attacking team like Palace. He could have got a top 6 move but wouldnt have turned the needle.

You could argue the same with Jack. He was good when he had free reigns. When he was not the star he could not impose himself on games. Someone like Bernie was running the show for Monaco but wasable to adaot to a supporting role here.

Gibbs white scouting report probably what our scouts and Viana have seen, I’m guessing Viana sees him as a player who can break through into that world class bracket. Reading this he’s similar to Bellingham. The chances created was surprising didn’t expect it to be that high.

Strengths:
  • Creativity and Vision:
Gibbs-White excels at creating chances, as evidenced by his 61 chances created in the 2023/24 Premier League season, making him one of the best in the league.

  • Playmaking Ability:
He is a good dribbler, plays through passes, and passes into the penalty area effectively, showcasing his ability to create opportunities for his teammates.

  • Progressive Passing:
Gibbs-White has a good progressive to forward pass ratio, indicating his ability to advance the ball to teammates further up the pitch.

  • Competitive in Defensive Duels:
He competes well in defensive duels, particularly in the air, highlighting his all-around play.
Areas for Improvement:
  • Finishing:
Gibbs-White's goal output could be higher given the good positions he takes up.
  • Defensive Tackles and Interceptions:
While he is a smart presser and gets in good positions, his possession-adjusted tackles and interceptions stats are relatively low.
  • Sometimes Drifts Out of Games:
A tendency for some youngsters in his position is to drift out of games, which Gibbs-White sometimes displays.

For the fee we are going to have to pay for MGW, we could easily get Reijnders for!

Two different players really so you cant compare which surprised me. Reijnders scores more but is more defensive where as Gibbs white is more creative he creates nearly double what Reijnders does. But scores less and finishing isn’t his best ability

But if we get Wirtz and have Foden hopefully back then Reijnders could push futher forward as well as we would have Rodri back and Nico there as well?

We probably don't have room for Reijnders. In fact the more I think about it not sure we are going to have room for much more than Grealish for MGW or Wharton, maybe Cambiaso for Kovacic, maybe Wirtz or alternative for Bernardo and whatever keepers need replacing. Not even so sure we let Nunes go which was one of those I thought would be leaving.
