Morgan Gibbs-White

I could understand taking a punt if he was 19 or 20, and was available for a decent price as a squad player with potential but he's 25 and never done anything that suggests he's top class or going to be.

He basically plays as an attacking midfielder who scores about one goal every seven games, I don't see anything special when he's on the ball, he's not a great creator of chances. I just don't get it.

I think he’ll be a very useful squad player, and in all honesty I think he’s a step up in quality compared to Nico Gonzales, whom he will likely be battling it out with for an 8 spot. We’ll need to bring two or three home grown players in, and MGW is one of the best that is available, plus he plays in a position we need so it’s a bit of a no brainer. Nico O’Reiley will be first choice at 8 next to Wirtz anyway so we don’t need to worry!

Why are people acting like Grealish was always a bum? he was really good for Villa year before City and he was good in the treble year too.

So was Phillips at Leeds, and it was obvious he wasn't good enough.
Has anyone at City ever been sacked, replaced, or demoted for identifying and signing Phillips?

The transfer money and wages wasted on him is absolutely scandalous.

Nunes as well, all be it he is now a make shift full back.

If the rumours are true, hopefully not, it will be the same again with MGW.

That's who I am talking about.

Viana and Txiki which is involving Pep too.

Our recruitment last 2-3 seasons has been absolutely crap which is why we are where we are this season.

If we want to get back to winning ways again, let's start signing players the calibre of Gundogan, Bernardo, De Bruyne, David Silva etc...

PSG have found young players with really good potential, why can't we?

We can't afford to spend a fortune on a player that is not going to be a guarantee.
3 points off 2nd place after a transitional season where we’ve been beset by a multitude of injuries.

You sound a bit entitled

I wonder if you were on the PSG hype bandwagon with all the other media numpties say 6 months ago when they tamely lost in the CL group stage to Arsenal ? Were you identifying their young players as potential stars then ?

No to both questions is my guess

We are also 3 points off being 5th, it's small margins.

Last Summer I was banging the drum, saying we needed a Rodri backup, and a Haaland backup.

Some smart arses on here disagreed.

I'd agree with the guy who you've replied to, some of our recent recruitment, and lack of, has been really poor, we've gone from being the best team in the world 2 years ago, to 18 points behind the dippers and CL also rans after a pitiful campaign.

Considering some of our results this season, it is remarkable how we are only 3 points behind Arsenal, but the manner in some of our performances this season has been shocking.

Spurs (h) lost 4-0
United (h) lost 2-1
Arsenal (a) lost 5-1
Madrid (a) lost 3-0
Sporting Lisbon (a) lost 4-1

We've taken some absolute batterings this season. Liverpool didn't get out of second gear in the two games we played them this season either. Was all too easy for them.

Joao Neves was a player i wanted in the summer actually. Desire Doue was deemed a special talent when they signed him. Kvaratskelia I have wanted at City for about 2 seasons.

The players they bought were very well regarded as some of the brightest talents in the game.

I will take a CL finish and an FA Cup all day long... but massive massive improvements have to start in the summer to get us back competing for titles.

Had we made better signings last summer and season before, we wouldn't have been struggling this season and we may have not had a bad injury to Rodri. We simply run the poor guy into the ground by playing him far too much. Was borderline negligence.

We’ve had really bad results and performances in title winning seasons, they happen. If after 38 games we come 2nd or 3rd, to me that is a real achievement in a down year. Contrast that with the way the dippers and rags have had seasons where they’ve fallen off a cliff after successful periods.

I’ll take you at your word regarding the PSG boys, apologies for my churlishness, but regardless one could make a case that Doku and Savinho were much sought after youngsters with bags of potential when we bought them. Gvardiol was a good signing, Marmoush in today’s market looks to have been value for money, Khus may be too. It’s not all doom n gloom.

I agree about Rodri. Had we signed a better deputy for him than star struck, out of his depth Kalvin then a reasonably well rested and injury free Rodri could well have steered even this transitional team to within striking distance of the fairly ordinary dippers.

Also agree about MGW, I don’t watch much footy outside of our games but what I have seen of him didn’t pique my interest. Just a good solid energetic lad, mid table worthy at best which, if Forest finish 7th, is pretty much where he’ll be.

That would be decidedly unambitious. MGW is average on a good day, while Bernardo and Gundogan are past it, Echeverri is completely unproven and Kovacic and Grealish offer almost zero goal threat.

If we go into next season with that as our midfield we’ll be having a worse season than this one.
Kova is checking the season stat sheet and wondering " what does a man need to do be considered a goal threat from the 6 position?"

Completely agree

Are city just going of his stats? They must be because when I watch him I must be missing something! It's like we buying him for his balls on the break or the spreading those long wide ball quickly and him be home grown! Well we will find out if we buy him..

I watched Palace v Forest last night and tried to keep an eye on him.

Clearly they play a very different system, so I'll pull out observations that could be relevent.

- he is tactically aware. They have a strict system and he plays to it.
- he doesn't hide. He always wants the ball when they have possession and is constantly on the move trying to find space.
- he seems to either have excellent awareness of his teammates positions when he received the ball, or he scans well to achieve this. Either way, it helps him turn and move the ball quickly.
- he's a battler and has a good engine.

No idea personally if he'll be good enough, as coming here is a big change for any player. But those are things that they may like about him and may be convincing them that he could do it for us.

Already knew this but having watched the pair up against each other yesterday Wharton is the better player. If we’re serious about challenging again he’s the signing.

None of that matters mate as the court of Bluemoon have already decided he's shit and not good enough to play for us.....

In the current Premier League season, Morgan Gibbs-White has scored 5 goals and made 7 assists. He has appeared in 30 matches.
He has scored 16 goals in 151 appearances in his career.
No idea how good he'll be for us but he's never worth the fee Forest are asking.

Whether he's good enough his up for debate and I know people are judging him on what they're seeing at Forest but they're one of the teams with the lowest average possession in the league, so he's not seeing the ball as much as he would here.

I wonder if he has some lower fee champions league club release clause like it turns out many players have?
