We could be linked with James Ward-Prowse for a ”bargain 80m deal” and 75% of this forum would say its a great deal simply because they want it to be a great deal.

I do find it funny that alot of people down playing MGW cause he plays for forest are the same people that said to bring Delap back cause he will play Better with better players.

I think it would be more like 75% saying it was a shit deal because:

a) some really think it would be a shit deal (I would fall into this category).

b) some just want a more hyped name (I suspect you would fall into this category).

Same story with players like MGW (except I don't think it would necessarily be a shit deal).

Far more negativity than positivity on this forum.

If you with ”hyper name” mean better player your suspicion is correct.

But if you need more convincing that there is far more positivity than negativity regarding transfers, just look back at the transfer window threads ever since winning the treble, how the windows have been rated after the window is closed.. They have all been absolutely awful, yet the average rating is usually around 7.8/10 instead of 2 or 3 out of 10 as they deserved.

Sadly there's no way to 'bookmark it'. But I'll tell you something for free. Grealish was never ever the right player for City to sign. He was a wildly overpriced unprofessional bellend who was always going to go in the direction he did because he doesn't work hard, doesn't live his life in the right way, and as we saw from his performances after the treble win, isn't a born winner.

MGW is the exact opposite. He's a hard trainer. A hard worker. Desperate to improve. He'll bring the athleticism our midfield has been lacking for ages. He'll bring a range of passing that our midfield lacks whenever Rodri isn't in the side. I think why people are resistant to MGW is because of his age. If he were 21/22 and doing what he's done for Forest, I think people would have a very different opinion of his suitability for City.

MGW is the same. Both look great at their current clubs but not so much as soon as they make that move. Grealish is technically better. His application makes him look bang average.

You obviously didn't read my post nor do you take much stock in a players' mentality, so fair enough. FWIW Rodri was considered someone who was protected by the system Simeone played and wasn't 'technically' good enough for City. I've watched 90% of City's signings down the years get talked down on here, especially anyone bought from another PL club.

They haven't been awful at all. In the last few windows we have been buying mainly experienced back-up players (such as Kovacic, Nunes, Gonzalez etc) because we were happy with our first 11, or young players with potential to develop into first 11 players (Doku, Savinho, Khusanov etc). There has been a few 'ready-made' first team players amongst them to replace departing players (Haaland, Gvardiol).

We have made a few mistakes but not that many.

This window, I suspect we are mainly looking at players that are 'ready-made' and will fit into the way we wish to play going forwards. I have no idea if MGW is one of those or not.

Both menatlites are similar. There have been plenty of games where has been just as quiet as Grealish's.

Not better, but similar in their style of play. Obviously MGW is playing in a much worse team, but the key pass stats that MGW has are certainly eye catching.

Part of the issue is the number 10 role as we see it is a bit of a dying art. You look at most of the top teams in Europe now and very few, if any, have a De Bruyne level 10 in their teams. I think MGW would fit the profile of what the modern day 10 seems to becoming. He's absolutely nowhere near De Bruyne but nobody is and I include Wirtz in that. Just a look at stats for 8 / 10s across the teams in Europe we are supposedly miles behind and MGW on paper is ahead of them all. I'm not saying that means he's a better player but it shows we don't need that statistical freak centrally to compete and win.

MGW = 7G, 8A

Liverpool:
Szoboszlai = 6G, 6A
Mac Allister = 5G, 5A

PSG:
Ruiz = 5G, 5A
Neves = 3G, 8A

Barcelona:
Pedri = 4G, 5A
Dani Olmo = 9G, 3A

Inter:
Barella = 3G, 3A
Mkhitaryan = 1G, 4A

The thing the teams do have is output wide / up top. That's where our issue lies, as an on song Foden, Haaland and Marmoush are all high output players but not necessarily with assists and the guys that back them up are nowhere near for goals and assists. I think the focus should be on replacing De Bruynes output as a collective and potentially trying to sign a top level / high output wide man to pick up some of that slack and support what we currently have or go for fullbacks who can also produce in the final 3rd.

Rodri was a converted striker. He had some techincal ability to begin with. Enough for us to pick that attribute when closely scouting him.
 
If our aim is to finish 6th at best Gibbs-White is our man. Serious downgrade. Its a big no from me.
