Isn't the Type 45 destroyer supposed to be badass? I read someone in the Royal Navy saying it had the capability to destroy every military aircraft in South America, never mind Argentina.

its the most advanced warship in the world surpassing the " AEGIS class" of the USA.

it can track , target, identify, and kill surface ships, aircraft ( including stealth) , land targets and the same time

it has the radar and sensors that outperform the entire fleet that was sent in the eighties.

this one ship has more power than the task force combined

True. My son was in the navy and says this thing is an awesome ship. Destroyers are also equipped with 'Goalkeeper,' an advanced form of Gatling gun that can blast a curtain of titanium tipped bullets which will mince any aircraft flying through.

Is that goalkeeper the same thing they use to shoot down incoming missiles aswel?

It can do, it's a 'last resort' weapon really, anyway I think the type 45 is fitted with Phalanx.

Goalkeeper was in use back when I was in the Mil. It's an 80's system and I'm sure it's been replaced by now, or at least I hope so. Phalanx was the yank equivalent system and that must be out of service by now too.
I would tell you the Soviet navy system of the time too but then I'd have to kill you ;-)

Phalanx didn't work then either. 3.5'' gun also didn't work. Seacat thought it was an anti-submarine missile and kept diving into the oggin. Exocet was useless as their ships wouldn't come out to play cos of the subs.

I'm not convinced that Dauntless is as lethal as they'd have us believe tbh

We still gave them a good kicking though :-)

back on topic i think the lesson is dont read the papers, watch the news, scour the internet, have a mind of your own.

If you want to know about current affairs just listen to a musician who can make a record, play chords with a catchy riff and decent lyrics.

morrissey, bono and sting have one thing in common they speak for us, they make music so they must be our betters, i live my life on the whim of bob geldof

For some reason the UK is still heavily investing in the Navy with great results.
For some unknown reason we have paid billions for 6 of the best submarines ever made while retiring a well trusted aircraft in the Harrier to buy an American made F35 that cant even vertical take off which is its main selling point

We dont need Harriers anymore because we have no carriers for them. Sad but true.

Well then we wouldnt need F35's either. There are many great reasons other than carrier take off.

Long before surfing movies were made about Oahu's north shore, Hawaii's earliest inhabitants were Polynesian voyagers, living there for more than 1,000 years before European explorers visited. The English explorer Captain James Cook called them the Sandwich Islands in 1778 for the English Earl of Sandwich. Thankfully, that name didn't stick.

In 1820, New England missionaries arrived and began to "westernize" the islands. In 1840, Britain, France, and the United States recognized Hawaii as an independent kingdom, headed by King Kamehameha III. Yet Britain and France wanted to control the islands, and thus Kamehameha III placed Hawaii under U.S. protection in 1875.

In 1887, the United States was granted permission to establish a naval base in Hawaii at Pearl Harbor. Later, U.S. sugar interests encouraged that the King be overthrown, and Hawaii was established as a republic in 1893. U.S. domination of the islands came five years later, when the United States annexed Hawaii and it became a U.S. territory in 1900.

Under increasing U.S. influence, the population of Hawaii grew and its economy grew as well, as the islands increased sugar and pineapple production to satisfy the U.S. mainland. Hawaii's importance as a military outpost became critical when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. This brought the United States as well as Hawaii into World War II.

Following the war's end in 1945, the state took a long journey toward statehood. On August 21, 1959, Hawaii was admitted to the union as our 50th state.

THE ABOVE IS WRITTEN BY AN AMERICAN. EVEN THEY CANNOT GLOSS OVER THE FACT THAT THEY TOOK THESE ISLANDS FROM THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLES.

too many hypocrites talking about things they do not know about. in fact the yanks systematically killed every single early spanish/argi settlers on the falkland islands over a whaling row.

also, when yanks talk of colonialism, have a look at the hawaiian flag - it still has a union jack on it.
