Mosquitos and bites

Every bite I get becomes totally inflamed and often infected. They have almost completely ruined some holidays in the past.
I know it doesn't work for everyone, but it does for me .... Vitamin B12 one tablet everyday for two weeks before a trip, and continue during it. I also use Boots own tropical strength repellent too. Last three holidays, including one of two weeks in Dalyan, Turkey which is on a river (and where I have had the worst bites ever in the past) and not a single bite.

I remember watching a program years ago on this. The conclusion was the more deet in the repellent the better they worked. Pretty sure it was the us army using it in Vietnam, which the research was done for.

I go to Africa on hols and there are some basic rules to follow. Avoid sitting near water especially still water, dont sit at tables near bushes or trees, if inside on the ale sit near one of those ceiling fan things, and buy pure citronella oil amd dab a few drops around the ankles and on wrists

Im getting all my bites though at night ( i know they feed in the main at night ) while in aircon and not sweating, I eat garlic in large amounts especially here, thats supposed to stop.them,im taking anti histamines, using repellant, using after bite spray.

I hate the fuckers,i had malaria way back in 1993 and nearly died because of them.
Stick the aircon on minus and freeze their bollocks off.

Where abouts are/were you? Spent 11 years in India (Jan/Feb time), and this year was in Thailand - I always use the local repellent (Odomos in India, and can get in UK) and then also use Avons Skin so Soft as another layer (the one that contains Jojoba) as well - seems to work for me.
northern thailand, been about 30 times over the years but never been bitten like this before, all repellents have worked till now

most good repellents contain some deet, all ones i use have them

Avon used to do a spray called 'Skin So Soft' which worked really well at keeping blood suckers away. I used it quite a lot when I used to go climbing regularly.

In terms of relief once bitten, Anthisan cream is pretty good at stopping the buggers itching.

Anti-malarial medication made me have some truly weird dreams, and on the days I took it I would wake up in pools of sweat.

mosquitoes can not only smell our sweat, studies show they're attracted to the lactic acid and ammonia found in it. Therefore, the more you sweat — whether you naturally sweat excessively or you have just finished exercising — the more attractive you may be to mosquitoes
Don't know about that, I sweat like a pig with heroin withdrawal in hot weather and they never bite me, even when eating everyone else alive.
