Wright-Phillips - I understood why the transfer had to happen but still didn't want him to go.

Dunne - I sort of knew he'd have to go eventually as he wasn't top level but for a club that's fighting relegation or struggling in mid-table he was the kind of player that was always going to be a fans' favourite and he was certainly one of my all time favourite players.

Barnes & Owen for me. SWP was gutwrenching too. Gutted he went obviously, but the reasons behind it made me realise just what a basket case we had become from a financial point of view.

Probably nige although when swp went to chelsea, he was far and away our best player. So the 13 year old me was heartbroken haha.

SWP > Chelsea was pretty gut wrenching ... I remember I'd been to see City play Macc in a friendly and all the talk when I got there was that SWP had turned up but left again. By the time I got home it was breaking news on Sky that he'd gone.


It was different then though. Losing players when you don't know if you'll replace them hurts more than being the so called richest club in the world and knowing that whoever you sell, will be replaced by someone better in the long term.

Don't think there'll be a player of the ADUG era who's leaving would make me feel like SWP's leaving did.

Couldn't agree more. SWP had come through the youth system so it was like losing one of your own. Plus you were never convinced we would get the £21m to spend on players so I didn't see it as a way of strengthening the squad throughout at the time.

Strangely enough I was pretty upset when Jerome Boateng left as I genuinely thought that he had great potential. Nigel came a very close second.

Clive Wilson leaving hit me hard, I even wrote a letter to the club complaining, I was only 12 or summat though. Deffo SWP to Chelsea and I remember being extremely pissed off when Tony Coton went to the rags

Trevor Francis. Top class player and finisher, who we couldn't hold onto for long enough and for me, one of the reasons we statred on our downward spiral.
