All due respect mate...if you asked the same question anywhere in the world about maradona..10 out of 10 would say a footballer.

I think most non football watching people would know him for being that fat, cheating coke head to be honest.

I know where your coming from....but you could find fault with a lot of players...do you honestly think any England player would of admitted during the game they scored with their hand?.....as for coke head,there has been plenty of athletes doing that shit along with domestic violence and other sorts of violence,along with tax fraud...no driving insurance or a licence,let's not forget maradona was put in the limelight at 15 years old....you only have to look at gazza to see what a big wedge at stardom does at an early age.......only get the odd one who is perfect.

I'm my opinion itd be beckham.

If you asked a varied mix of 10,000 people including both genders all ages and a variety of nationalities to name 1 footballer he 'd absolutely piss it.

That is a fair point. If you aren't a football fan you probably still know Beckham. As someone else said Ronaldo is probably more well known than Messi too.
