Yes, but my point was not about trophy success, but about style and influence on the way the game is played. I have no problem acknowledging Fergussons success at winning, but he left no legacy in terms of style, whereas Pep by common consent has changed the game Europe wide. Also the OP posted about records in England.

Yes he was and at a time when football was different, still very much for the working man and woman. L’pool were very much a likeable team then, my family all wanted them to win the European Cup in the 77, mind you, Kevin Keegan played for them then and that was a big factor;)

I was still enough of a patriot to want all English teams to win the European Cup up until about 1999, when frankly I was willing Bayern on to win it. Also willing A.C. Milan on in 2005, or at the very least chortling into my beer at half-time. But prior to that I wanted every team — yes, even United in ’68 I'm afraid, then Liverpool, Forest, Villa up till — as I say — 1999. Now I truly don't give a toss for any English team. Except us. As for United against Chelsea, I literally did not watch (and have never watched) one single minute of it, and was barely aware of the result at the time. Same for Liverpool against Tottenham. Pure indifference. I respected Chelsea's win against Bayern (in Munich!) but certainly wasn't jubilant about it.
Still not fully over that no-show in Porto against Chelsea.

Definitely wanted Forest to win theirs. Shall we call it since post Premiership era because football changed then, I wanted Chelsea to win when they were in the final (not against us obviously but when Drogba played for them), not overjoyed if you get me, just pleased and forgot about it five minutes later. Not wanted any other English team to win except us now and I feel the same about you v Chelsea in Porto.

Paisley was a bloody good manager in the relatively short time he was in charge at Liverpool (don't think it was close to 8 years, though). And he seemed a decent bloke, considering.

I genuinely don't think we had much of an axe to grind with the Red lot down the M62 until the last 15 years (that's not excusing what their fan base chose to do in the 70s/80s across Europe it just didn't impact us).
Unfortunately they were taken over by septics who ganged together with the other septic owners to disparage us - their current fan base have chosen to buy into the nonsense and have reacted as they used to in the 70s and 80s
