Most impactful manager in the first 8 years of their tenure

I've seen some reports recently that suggest that Alex Ferguson is the greatest manager ever in the English game. He was at Man U for almost 30 years and yes he won a lot of trophies. So hats off etc. However, it's very unlikely that Pep will be at City for this period of time. Therefore, I have compared the first 8 years of Pep's tenure with the first 8 years of GPC and there is no comparison. I have also included Bob Paisley in the mix too.

Let's spoil a good story with the facts. In the first 8 years of each managers tenure the major trophy count is as follows...

GPC 4
PG 15
BP 12

Plus, Pep has managed successfully in the German and Spanish leagues too. GPC achieved notable success with Aberdeen.

Trophies aside, Pep has revolutionised the way football is played in England.

Paisley was a bloody good manager in the relatively short time he was in charge at Liverpool (don't think it was close to 8 years, though). And he seemed a decent bloke, considering.

With Pep, though, it's not about trophies. Or not just. That can never be said enough. Whether in Spain, Germany or England, he's obliged people to rethink the game. Who, among even the most rabid rags or dippers, could say that of any of their managers? Ferguson had no influence on the game as such. Honestly, the only person even close to Pep in that respect (and he's not close to him, does it need saying?) is Wenger, in that Wenger brought in a style that was clearly continental, and it was very successful with the group of players he had (many of them from Europe, and it's no coincidence).
Pep's legacy will endure. And it's not over yet.

Pep’s impact on the game as a whole makes him the most important coach since Rinus Michels. It’s not just about trophies. Ferguson had a tried and trusted formula plus a big advantage in budget. He was pragmatic whereas Pep is a visionary. Pep leaves a legacy in the way the game is played, Ferguson just a list of trophies.
