Most momentous International event in your lifetime?

Difficult to pick just 1, but in no particular order

9/11
Moon landing (I was very young, don't remember it)
Fall of the wall
Covid
Invasion of Ukraine

When Princess Diana died, I was staying at my grandma's and I'd just finished my paper round and wanted to watch some kids TV. The TV was full of it, so I put my Beavis and Butthead video on. When my grandma got up, I told her Diana had died, and for about 30 minutes, she assumed I was talking about some stupid Beavis and Butthead plot. When she realised it was real, she made me turn it off so she could watch the news. Boooo.
I remember hearing about Diana on the radio when I was going to visit my mum & nan, When I got there they had no idea so I just remember saying something like
"That posh woman who is always on holiday & is having it off with that harrods blokes son, you know she used to be married to old jug ears has died"
looking back probably not the most sympathetic way to break the news but I never really got the competitive mourning that broke out after her death?

Has to be 911 and COVID the main two but the SAS embassy seige has a special place in me heart, the first time the world was properly made aware of the special forces. Remember watching as a kid and being awestruck

we have had a lot going on this week but just 3 days ago was the 24th anniversary of the Berlin Wall coming down. I remember it so well - it went up days after I was born and I recall listening to live radio reports in my Citroen AX outside Swinton RLFC on the day.
Still gives me goosebumps - and hope for humanity

Its funny how you remember this stuff - I am always aware of how people recall where they were when Kennedy dies (I was too young then) but 9/11 I recall I was driving home from Scarborough on the A170 near East Ayton when a work colleague rang me to say a light plane had hit the World Trade Centre. TBH I didn't know what the WTC was back then. We kept in touch as best we could given mobiles back then and the terrain but I got in just to see WTC 1 collapse - I was awestruck.

The Iranian Embassy Siege isn't that big for me as it occurred around a troubled time with terrorism in the UK so in some ways it was another one of those.

And Covid...... well i am still processing that as more info comes to light its also confusing for me as I took redundancy and a year out just before so I had sort of been through similar before however I am sure it will be a grower for me
