Most Overrated Player to Play for City

Demichelis.

Came with a big name/ reputation. I used to watch just him for a couple of 5 minute or so periods throughout games, to have a proper look at him.

There was that much wrong in his game, it was frightening.

The Demichelis signing was really stupid.

First he was a free agent, who we didn’t want to sign. Then he signed for Atletico Madrid in July, then we paid £4m to sign him on deadline day.

Secondly, Atletico used that £4m to sign Toby Alderweireld for £5m who was at that point a regular partner for Kompany in Belgium and no doubt a much better PL centre back than Demichelis.

Most peoples’ suggestions in this thread are big names we bought later in their careers when they were on a downward spiral before retirement. That’s not overrated, that’s just older

Truly overrated players are players we think are better than the rest of the football world thinks they are. I’d go for:

Rodney Marsh
Gio Kinkladze
Phil Foden

I think overrated City players are players who are not as good as our fans tend to think, independently of how the football world sees them. Because our fans may be right in some cases (when oppo fans haven't watched enough, say, Khusa and Cherki) and wrong in other cases.

Thought many non-City fans and pundits rated Foden highly when he won POTY. I think the biggest discrepancy between how our and other fans see (current) City players concerns other players but I wouldn't mention names.

I find more interesting the question about the most underrated City players.

The fan boys wont agree but the piss can Grealish, wont even be able to get any money back with his drunken slumber pictures again this week.

I’m not a fanboy but that’s a very harsh way of viewing his time with us. He was integral to the club’s greatest ever season. A season that will never ever be beaten.

I’d go with De Jong. Lost count at the amount of times people who didn’t know the game in the South Stand near me shouted get Barry off and De Jong, a player inferior to Barry in nearly every department. Thankfully Mancini knew.

We'll hopefully never pay 40+ mil and give a 6 year contract to someone overrated like Phillips again.
