I think it's quite the opposite, actually. To me, those pictures show what humanity can be like when individuals realise that they alone are responsible for the way they live.
 
Those pictures only a show a small portion of the good in humanity. People are doing good things all the time. Much more than bad things. The only difference is there aren't always people there taking pictures of the good things and we hear about all the bad things in the news every day. There's much more good in humanity than people realise.

Images from an exhibition called Genesis by Sebastiao Salgado which I saw in London last year...not sure if still on but well worth a look.

Maybe I could have worded it better then in that the people in charge stop us doing this purely for their selfish gain, many people myself included have become very wary of giving our money away knowing that it just goes to corrupt people in these poor countries, if you get what I mean.
