Mother Macs

When I was young - I'm not sure I was even 18! - I'd meet my mates in there on a regular basis. In those days we drank brown split with mild, not a drink I've heard asked for in recent times. It was, in effect, my first 'local'.

Shame to see it go, Manchester has lost so many great pubs over the years.

Last night is tomorrow, big leaving party.

Cheers for the info mate. Only been in a couple of times as, like others, it seems to have a closed door policy.

Do you know if it's to be a hotel, think that was mentioned. Hope they keep the bar in some form and keep the name alive.

Decent little pub but was a nightmare getting into on a match day. Pre or post match in general we never got in. After being refused entry time after time it got crossed off our pub route when we were in town for a drink on a non match day. A pub that was tucked away like it was shouldn't be refusing punters entry as said punters could be return punters when the pub can't rely on match day revenue.

It's sad because it was a traditional Manc pub but it's a sign of the times. Whetherspoons or some other eatery/bar seem to be the norm nowadays. Still got the Britons, the pev and the millstone though :)

Don't know your age RACHACE but they seem to have a over 25 or even 30 policy like a few other pubs on match days, sorry and all that but us old twats need places were we need to feel is ours the young are well looked after to drink there alco pops.

Fair enough mate but has they listened to Whitney maybe they'd be staying open.

"Mother Macs these young-uns are your future, teach them well and let them drink your ale, they'll even buy the pork scratchings you possess inside"

Probably exactly the type of shit that's not acceptable in mother macs. I'll stay in dry bar ;)

Your time will come. Download a 50s hit "The Green Door" by Frankie Vaughan, also you may need a coffin dodger like me to get you in places like Mother Macs I have had to speak up for my 19 year old grandson for him to get served in the Grey Horse.

One of the best bars in town when I'm up for the games is Mother Macs on Back Piccadilly, last season there was talk of it closing, anyone got news? if it has gone then part of Manchester has died and soon only the Weatherspoons type of shite soulless bars will be left.

Me Mam works there(practically runs the place)

It's closing for a couple of week for a re fit, and bit of a Change around end of the month I think then business as usual.
As someone has mentioned the guy from the crown and anchor has it and wants to turn the rooms upstairs into b&b.

He wants to keep the match day custom as there are a good few Norwegians go in there early doors each match day, maybe hoping to cash in on them staying there too.

Mam said he wants to keep her on as she knows the crowd but she a bit worried as you would be when change is put on you..
