There are 2 factors that have to be looked at:
Mourinho To City? :-
This would probably be the one manager that the scum would not want us to acquire most. Mourinho has already proven pedigree in this league within his time at chelsea. As we know he was the one manager that since his time at Porto and after that win in the CL against the rags, was able to wrestle the then dominance from bacon faces hands.
The downside to Mourinho is if he has the desire to stay long term and not only start but finish a project?
Pep To City :-
Pep has proved before taking the full managers job at Barca that he had what was required to be a great manager. He managed the Barca B team with whom he gained promotion with. He ran and developed the youth players within the B team and was the manager responsible for bringing back the Johan Cruyff philosophy of football.
Both of these managers live and breath football.
Quotes from Barcelona players when asked about Guardiola give an insight as to how he worked. One quote from a player stated that after a game, the team returned to the Barca grounds where the players changed and left to go home. Pep was seem in his office studying video footage of their next league opponents. The amount of time & energy that Guardiola put into his work is the reason why he has taken a year out.
To simply say he inherited a team which would win anyway is wrong. Some people now say, look at Barca without him, they fail to realise that the now coach Tito Vilanova served alongside Pep during his team as the reserve team coach and was also responsible for assisting in the philosophy that Pep encouraged.
Also players from Mourinho's time at Chelsea have quoted how great a tactician and the amount of preparation his puts not only into acquiring details on the opposition, individual players and into team training.
Both managers have the attributes to become the modern era's greatest managers.
It is whether the 2 people now responsible for the running of our club ( Soriano & Txiki) determine that we still move forward with Bobby or put the manager in place that they want to take the club further both in terms of development on & off the pitch.
The direction the club is taking is the same one that Barcelona have developed that is certain - Academy & Youth players that will supply the first team with academy generated talent.
Because of the links that Soriano & txiki had with Barca & Pep, it is inevitable that our club will be linked with him. Also due to our position we will be linked with any great manager that becomes available.
If Bobby does remain then he would not be able to justify any bad results on a lack of signings. He will have to fully understand that the squad will be trimmed of the surplus players, yes signings will be made to strengthen the squad but it will not be 3 or 4 major signings of the World Class mould.
Players young enough but talented will be acquired. Players that are deemed good enough still to bring something to the first team should the manager require them, but also who are signed on a fee & wage that does not outweigh their contribution to our club.
According to reports, we have not even approached or made any kind of formal offer for Pep or Mourinho - time will tell.
Whatever happens will happen, and it will happen for the greater good of our fantastic club.
If a new manager is acquired, Bobby will be forever written down in our history as the manager that brought back the sleeping giant and awoke the beast.
He will be written in our memories and our sons/daughters memories forever - which is truly justified.
